3-year upgraded to 4-year ROTC scholarship

I received a 3-year ROTC scholarship after the 2nd board, however, just got an email stating "Congratulations! Your Army ROTC 3-year Advance Designee scholarship has been upgraded to a 4-year scholarship". Is this a rare occurrence or did they just make a mistake at first?

There are a handful of folks commenting on another thread that they were upgraded, my son included. I knew it was a possibility and I’m glad it happened!

I think they hold some 4 years to award at the third board. If you end up with a higher score than a third board applicant, you get upgraded to a 4 year and the third board applicant with the lower score would get the 3 year.
 
My impression, without going back to review last year's threads, is that this phenomenon -- the third board upgrade -- was more common this year than last, at least in terms of posters saying that they got an upgrade. If I'm right about that, I wonder if that means that the total applicant numbers this year were lower than they were expecting, which had the effect of pushing the final cut line between 3 year and 4 year scholarships lower than they were anticipating?
 
Has anyone else uploaded the upgrade letter (as instructed) but it still hasn’t been “approved” on the document list? In the past, things were approved very quickly but this has been pending for several days.

Just want to make sure it’s known by CC that DS is accepting the upgrade!

My DS was upgraded as well, but I do not see the upgrade letter - where do you see that?
