Thought I would share this with everyone - first saw it floating around on FB so I decided to start reading his short story titled "30 days has september." The author, James Strauss, is a Vietnam War vet who served in the Marines as an Artillery officer and recounts his experience with his first unit/tour. He writes that they are based on true events and they are pretty harrowing. Think its a good read and I have been keeping up with it. It starts with the "First Day" when you scroll to the bottom. Wonder if anyone can shed some truth on the story...it just seems so incredulous and impossible!

I am not the author, but I hired him as he left the USMC. He has received the appropriate medals and accolades in the day.
He shared so much of this story with me 46 years ago and I have been encouraging it to be published all this time.
Guess as we get older we get less stubborn.
It comes form the daily letters home to his folks and wife which thankfully the kept and his own personal journal notes.
Based on what I am reading the is high degree of accuracy to the story.
The other stories and novels are also based on time spent as an operative.
Jim was the best agent I ever had privilege to work with and I honor our friendship over these difficult years

Thanks for reading the story and commenting Chockstock. The experience was not believable and I expect to gain no significant credibility from the writing of it. But, I have read and seen so much claptrap junk about what real combat is like that I decided it was time to lay it all out as best I could, at least my little hell of a war back then. Believe what you want or don't. I'm 71 and 100% disabled from the Corps now and I'm not writing a bestseller. I'm too old to be famous anymore. If I finish, then I will put it up on Amazon and let it go. Now I live every day for the enjoyment I get from reading the comments of other guys who went through similar **** but can't or won't write about it. For all of them and for me, I write on. As far as credibility goes, I find it interesting that a forum dedicated to fighting men and women would censor the use of any expletives when in the field half of all language is exactly that until the firing begins and then it moves up to ninety percent!!!

Like it or not, this is a forum dedicated to kids who are seeking a path to commission. It is not unusual for 12 or 13 year old kids to post here looking for advice. The forum's decision to disallow questionable language is not a credibility issue, it's one of basic decency.

I am considering trying to branch field artillery through AROTC, so I will definitely be reading up on this.
