How long will it take for my portal status to change to having an official appointment after being 3Q ("fully qualified for admission") with a nomination and LOA?

You will receive an offer of appointment ... and after you accept it - it will show as accepted appointment.

Give it time. They are busy.

Yay! We got a call from our congressman’s office saying our DD got the appointment. We will update the list once we see it officially.

Can someone explain exactly what is a Letter of Assurance. Our DS received and accepted his appointment on 12/24; the very next day (Yes, Christmas day), he received a letter confirming his acceptance, including the following verbiage, "Your space at the USAFA is now officially reserved." However, it's all pending a medical waiver from DoDMERB.

Is that an LOA? I've heard its better than an LOA. Does a LOA say "Letter of Assuarance" across the top? There was no such indication on the letters he got. Thanks.

Your waiver went through if your son accepted his appointment. Congrats!!

Thank you for your reply and kind words, RM78. I hope you are correct, but that doesn't comport with our experience so far. We have hoped that it's just a matter of the portal just not being updated yet, but it has been over five weeks now, and the portal still says that he is not medically qualified and that the waiver is pending. His contact at DoDMERB says as much. She said it is still pending, but can't say when or if the waiver will be granted. We surely feel that his chances are pretty good at this point, especially knowing that his health matter is minor, and though flagged, is typically something that is waived. We are looking forward to finally being able to properly celebrate.

I received my LOA on December 24th and Nomination shortly after. It took about 3 weeks until I got an email to check my portal and the offer of appointment was there. They're very busy this time of the year.

@Gyrfalcon No need to contact DoDMERB over waiver pending status as they don't grant waivers, the Service Academy concerned does.

DS received LOA on Nov. 11.

He received nomination Dec. 11, a day before his birthday.

Our Congressman just called and said that he was getting an appointment...Feb. 6.

I have posted the timeline, which hopefully gives future cadet hopefuls and parents an example of timing! Our family is over the moon with joy...and I am going to go on a spending spree for all the USAFA parent bling at the Academy gift shop.
