4 year scholarship

Depends on the school. Usually it is just tuition...and books and a monthly stipend... but if you check this forum, there is a list of schools that will round out the scholarship w/ Room and Board.

And, congratulations!

I received a 4 year scholarship from arotc, and i was wondering if this is a full-ride, or just tuition?

Hi, it depends on the type of scholarship. It will say in the email, the type, tuition and how much it will cover. It generally does not cover room and board. But some cover a book stipend and a month spending allotment. Congratulations!!!

You have the choice of if either paying Tuition and Fees or Room and Board ($10k max). If you are going to a private school, it is better to select the Tuition and Fees option. Some colleges will throw in a room and board kicker, so that everything is covered.

Do you know by chance how we'd find out if our university will cover room and board if awarded the 4 year scholarship?

Tay- it seems like it might be some private universities that are willing to cover room/board to some ROTC scholarship winners. I haven't seen many people mention any public universities offering this but you never know. Best bet would be to call the ROO at the universities you are considering & ask them- they would definitely know.

Tay, there is a thread at the top of the ROTC page that discusses universities that offer 'Room and Board' or other benefits to ROTC winners. Also, be sure to talk to the Financial Aid office of your colleges. Good luck.

The schools might be contacting you over the next few days, if not contact them. My daughter's phone started blowing up at 8 am after her portal changed and one school didn't contact, but she was focused on deciding between two and ROO at each were calling with all the "extra benefits" their school offered. The scholarship you earned pays tuition and fees (or room and board) as stated above, a book allowance, and a monthly stipend. This is all conditional, and it will say that in your letter, on passing DODMERB and your fitness test when arriving on campus. My daughter chose a school that waived room and board, so now that her scholarship has activated (she was a 3 year upgraded to a 3.5) she does not pay anything to the school, and receives a monthly stipend for incidentals. I would get a hold of the schools ASAP. If having a hard time getting a hold of the ROO, try financial aid and ask to talk to the counselor that deals with ROTC. Also try to visit if you have not already and talk to ROTC face to face. You have 30 days, don't be afraid to use it! The day before receiving the scholarship, my daughter thought she knew which school she would pick with or without a scholarship, after, we encouraged her to keep her mind open, she ended up picking the school that had been her last choice and she is so happy she did. She is loving it!

Remember you are a four year scholarship recipient, for these schools it is like you are a top ranked athlete and now they are competing for you to choose them.

If we have a 3 year scholarship will we not receive a stipend until one year passes correct?

That is correct. My daughter's ROO told her she would get it, but that was incorrect. She did get room and board waived even firs they year, but that is up to the school, the other school she was talking to didn't waive it until the scholarship activated. Some schools depending on which batallion they are in, will offer an upgrade starting second semester depending on performance and grades, but again you need to ask each school. Good luck making your decision such a fun time to examine all of your options!

My son is going to Baylor, the finincial aid department was a great help in looking at what the best options were using his academic scholorships and ROTC scholarship. Good luck and Congratulations!!!

That is correct, most state schools are unable to do so, and the ROO at that school would know.
