My DD got offered a 3 year AROTC and was thankful. This was her plan B as she was waiting on a service academy. She found out tonight that she is waitlisted for the SA so is ready to accept the 3 year at plan B. Our question is if she gets pulled off the waitlist can she change her 3 year acceptance since she doesn’t get money until sophomore year?

She can change it regardless of a 3 yr scholarship. Happens all the time. She would call, and thank them for the amazing opportunity, but explain that she has decided to accept her recent SA appointment.

Both of my boys did just this.

BTW…which SA waitlist? Curious which one is to that point.

My DS received 3 yr AROTC and the timeframe to accept is approaching. His first choice was NROTC and it looks like he is an alternate. Can he accept AROTC and then switch to NROTC if he gets it?

Yes. You should always accept the scholarship. You are under no obligation to use it. It would be courteous to let folks know if you're not going to use it, if you get to that point.

Thanks for the info kinnem! He was also considering transferring his scholarship to another school. Does this need to be done when he accepts or can he accept and then transfer later?

Did you by chance interview at that college? If so, I would reach out to that person. If not, any contact you have there. And absent that, look at their website. All that would make sense to me. But I’m just a mom of two that declined.

My boys both reached out to the Captain that interviewed them. Thanking them for the amazing opportunity, and politely declining.

If it’s to GWU, then you could pm @GWU PNS 😬

Congrats on your appointment.

Thank you, I'll use your advice

BTW….I wouldn’t leave a VM if you don’t get who you are after. I would recommend a professional email, over a VM. You can probably get email addresses from unit websites. My boys unit had a secretary, that was very hopeful. You will figure it out.
