All appointees need to be aware that the acceptance deadline for this year's class is April 15th. If appointees fail to respond by that date they will automatically lose their appointment. The Academy is notoriously unforgiving when it comes to missed deadlines.

Were you notified by USAFA of this new deadline? If yes, then that must be an update to the Instructions To Candidates dated 7 Sep 2016 where it says "May 1st: Candidates who were appointed must accept or decline their appointment." Of course this does not include the Falcon Foundation and Prep School because most are generally selected/notified in April through May.

I usually suggest that moms & dads and appointees sit down together and make a BIG WALL CALENDAR (that actually gets put up on some wall) with all deadlines clearly marked, those from USAFA or other SA, of course, but also those with high school, jobs, sports, etc. During April and May, things can get really messy with the appointee's hectic schedule, other siblings, parents, grandparents, etc. and everyone's clear and obvious, and sometimes fuzzy and mixed up, dates will be on a public wall in the home where it can be checked daily, by anyone. No need for mom and dad to nag or become anxious, no need for Junior or LilBit to miss that graduation-party-acceptance deadline.

Work it up now, and get it up on the wall. The computer type isn't as easily accessible, and certainly not as obvious to everyone.

Because we had one in civ college, two appointees, and a highschool junior, our FAMILY CALENDAR was about six feet long and covered 1 March - 1 July. Each kid had his/her own color. It worked exceptionally well for us.

Excellent idea !! We have been using Google calendar but the wall-sized calendar may be a better solution in the coming few hectic months. :)

2 years ago our DS had an April 15th deadline for acceptance to USMA, however, he was scheduled for his overnight visit to USNA (Where he also had an appointment) after the deadline date and we had already purchased non-refundable plane tickets, requested vacation days, etc. He requested an extension from USMA and it was granted. If there are special circumstances they may grant an extension.
