Accommodations for I day

I was trying to figure that out too. It’s not on the USNA calendar yet as far as I can tell. It’s usually XXX weeks after Iday, and on a Thursday- Sunday. My GUESS GUESS GUESS is Aug 13-16. Guess. Won’t know for sure until the calendar at USNA.edu is set.

The Class of 2024 PS pages and schedules are not yet posted, but the academic calendar is updated for Summer 2020 and Fall 2020. Summer training Block 3 ends on Thursday, 13 Aug; that is the rest of the Brigade wrapping up leave/summer training blocks. Fall Term begins Monday, 17 Aug. The rest of the Brigade returns (“Reform”), and ac year begins. PS will wrap up; plebes will be moving into ac year company areas. Million things to do during this transition period. PPW, to the best of my knowledge, does not happen on this weekend, but one prior to that, PERHAPS 7-9 August.

Stay tuned to and watch for updates for Class of 2024 at:

If all the stars align and my DS is offered an appointment, my daughter's wedding is on August 8th and I would hate to miss Parent's weekend! Should have thought that through!

If that turns out to be the case, your DS will be looked after. He will have made friends, and families will sweep him up into escaping the Yard. He will also be free to walk off the Yard himself to enjoy liberty.

He will have met his sponsor family by then, which could be an option. Over our years of sponsoring, we have looked after many PPW orphans.

Before you ask, a request to depart PS to attend a family wedding would in all likelihood not be approved.

Just wondering, can a plebe put in a chit at say the beginning of PS to attend a Sisters Wedding? I know a plebe "rates" zip, but??

Others have asked, and I’ve seen the knowledgeable long-timers on this site respond with something like “when pigs fly.” Plebe summer is foundational to the whole SA experience. Mids learn so much about what lies ahead — the camaraderie, teamwork, pressure, stress, joys and achievements. And yes, about the fact that the needs of the military come first.

One could submit a chit. One might be looked down upon for doing so. At plebe summer, platoons do everything together. Breaking away for a wedding would be counter to that.

In spring semester of plebe year, DD submitted a chit for her cousin’s wedding. She was a bridesmaid, did the paperwork well in advance, was satisfactory in all phases — academics, military, physical. She received permission to go on the Friday morning before the Saturday afternoon wedding. Welcome to the military.

Yup, I get paras 1 and 2. My own DD was loath to submit a chit for anything until midway through her 2c year (still pretty rare).

That said, it seems like a Chit might work for PPW following the parade through just the weekend of PPW. I know that post PS a plebe can ask for a chit and it comes at a "price". My question is whether a plebe can request a chit on the front end of PS for PPW (post parade) time at the end of PS? ----is that possible?

They can submit a request — probably for anything they want, anytime they want. The question is whether that’s good form and whether it’ll be granted.

I feel ‘ya. I have a daughter trying to plan a wedding. I’m voting. For Christmas one, feeling that break is the best chance for everyone to be here. She wants spring/summer [emoji849]. It’s ultimately up to her but I’ve told her one, two or 3 bros may not be there.
Benefit of a church Christmas wedding, usually already beautifully decorated! Saves on the flower budget.....

A request chit is used to ask for an exception to a rule or policy for some worthwhile and truly exceptional reason that merits it. Reviewing officers will assess it as to whether it’s right for USNA/Big Navy, right and necessary (a need or a want) for the mid, and what precedent it sets. Is it exceptional enough that everyone will understand the special treatment and not expect it for themselves? If it’s granted, will there be 500 other mids who submit the same chit, now that a precedent has been set, and the barn door is wide open?

The mission of PS is to bond them as a group as they learn military discipline, suffering the same deprivations and inconveniences as their classmates. They can all grumble about the same things. They all get exactly the same amount and type of liberty. No one gets special treatment, or if they do, everyone understands why, perhaps a humanitarian reason. One of the first rules of deckplate leadership: “Keep everyone equally happy. Or unhappy.” [emoji16]

About PPW, which day is better for hotel check out? I see plebes have to go back to the Yard by 6pm.
If you can swing it, highly recommend Monday. This gives a place to relax until they return. He/She will want to get back early, but it's nice if you can relax, not worry about packing, checking out, etc and enjoy the day with your Plebe. Also, I recommend a VRBO-HomeAwya-AirBNB. Allows for a little more room to relax, cook, do laundry and feel like a family.

If you have to check out on Sunday for travel reasons to get home by Monday, you may be able to drop your Plebe at the sponsor’s home. As a long-time sponsor, we have given many plebes a few more hours of precious liberty after a parental hand-off. We get them back to the Yard in plenty of time.

If the usual schedule holds true, on the Sunday before PPW, there will be a sponsor family meet and greet at Alumni Hall for a few hours. Many sponsor families invite their new plebes and families to drop by on PPW, so parents can meet sponsor families, see the nap sofas, stocked refrigerator and friendly sponsor dogs.

Or possibly park the Plebe with another family for those extra hours. It’s all one big class family at this point.
