Hello,
My son is in process of applying to The Coast Guard Academy. He starting taking Accutane approximately 3 weeks ago and should be completely finished with the medication by January 2019. He is already seeing improvement and I would hate to take him off but I don't want this medication to cause problems during his medical evaluation. Would he be given a waiver that would be lifted once he shows proof he stopped the Accutane? I read that he would need to be off medicine at least 6 weeks prior to Induction Day. In his case, he would have been off it for 5 months. If anyone has any information or experience with this - please give me your opinion on whether he should continue or should I stop the medication now.

Thank you!

FWIW, the mods will probably move all 3 of your posts to DoDMERB forum.

I would also suggest you use the search button here because Accutane questions come up every yr.

Our son also took accutane but was off of it before dodmerb. You just need to report it on the dodmerb form and let the process move along. Dodmerb/USCGA will tell you what they need. I would keep ALL records from your dermatologist and then when done get a letter stating that your son is complete with no side effects and that he is fit for duty.

I merged all 3 threads and moved them to the DoDMERB Forum.
