My first try on the ACT I received:
29 Composite
29 Math
30 English

I am already planning on retaking this, because I know I can do better. Plus, this time I will not have any distractions like the sling I wore during the last one... My question is, would these be considered good scores for a first try?

Those are very good scores to build upon. I would hesitate to tell you not to go for some better scores, as you really need to be in the 30's. Keep up the good work, and best wishes.

These are good scores, but you should try and get higher. DD had 30/30/30/31, 3Q, and no appointment. Next year will be even tougher so the higher the better.

They were better than my first time scores. Good start!

Also, does USNA really consider the composite score? Or is the math and english really the only two scores they want to see?

Correct ... only math, English ...composite is not considered or recorded.

Decent scores ... none knows whether they are "competitive." That depends on various things. The prudent approach ...get 'em higher, realizing if they are both 32 or 33 ...they may or may not be competitive. They will surpass "necessary," but even then, not necessarily "sufficient." And remember, under recent past weighting of these, math scores have carried literally nearly twice the import of English/verbals in determining WP scores. And finally, remember, none of this matters much if one is among the priority target population.

Thank you all for your replies. I am going to be retaking it this June. Hopefully with better results. Again thank you.
