Admissions Board

If that is true, then why are are there some appointments being made now?
Look at prior years “DIY Appointment” threads. It’s not uncommon at all for there to be early appointments. SA’s get going as soon as they are able. One example: MOC XXX submits their slate of candidates early. Maybe December 1st. The SA can certainly start working on that group of candidates. Often these early ones have LOA’s, since other key pieces aren’t completed yet (ie DODMERB). Not always. Sometimes there is someone known to them (pre-candidate questionnaire? A summer immersion participant? Lots of reasons to be on their radar already). But predominantly, SA’s get down to business starting about now, after MOC’s slates are due.

SA’s are competing for kids, just like other colleges. Early bird get the proverbial worm!

Just want to to clear the absolute earliest you can start filling out your USAFA application is March 1st of your junior year correct?

USAFA accepts "applications" beginning on March 1st. "Applicants" are screened through the Spring and early Summer, and they are advanced to "candidate" status beginning on July 1st if their pre-candidate application indicates they meet minimum standards and they are competitive for an appointment. They are advanced to "candidate" status on a rolling basis; a certain number each day beginning on July 1st so that their completion deadlines are not all the same day and there is a predictable flow of completed applications to the Admissions Directorate. "Applicants" are advanced to "Candidate" status in the order they applied. It is best to apply early so if there is a problem (injury, family emergency, etc) that precludes completing it on time you can request an extension and still complete your application before the ultimate January 15 deadline.

Incorrect, the January 15th deadline is for people who start their application in the Fall of their senior year. Normally it is a 4 month window with people who start their application July 1st, and their application being due on November 1st. Once opened you have 4 months to complete all of the required items.

He/she isn’t incorrect about what was said with regard to the January 15 deadline. If you read it again carefully you will understand what is being conveyed.

Wasn’t made very clear, so I thought I’d clear it up. Extensions can be requested, but I didn’t want new applicants to assume they’ll have until January 15th.
