Advance Camp 2020 News

Yep big RIP to the seniors this fall.
I'll agree to the extent that its different. They'll still acquire the necessary skills and commission on time, while only sacrificing a 4 day weekend. Not a bad deal, but different.

the article says;
Every year a number of cadets who were injured during CST return after their senior year to complete the commissioning requirement. This year 416 cadets are set to return, and Evans said that the Secretary of the Army has waived the summer camp training requirement. These cadets, and those who are commissioned next year, will be evaluated at their basic branch course to determine what military skills may require remedial training.

My time in uniform taught me you never want to be associated with the word "remedial".

If you are not going into combat arms and specifically infantry then I would think not knowing STX lanes is not going to be that big of a deal. DS was less than impressed with his experience at Ft. Knox. To be fair we went there under the old program in 2016

That was an underwhelming year for camp

Camp was honestly a waste of time and frankly I don't think going (or not going) to Camp is going to make a difference in making an Officer ... though I went in 2016 as well so.

I think my DS found his BOLC experience (armor) to be far more challenging and interesting than Advanced Camp was (2018). The best part of camp for him was the friendships he made and discovering he wanted to be an Armor officer during the branch fair.

The paycheck is better too.
