Hi! Long time reader of threads, first time poster! I received the 4 year NROTC scholarship for C/O 2022 and this forum helped me a lot with the application process so I wanted to give back to the next class. Feel free to reach out and ask me anything about the entire process, interviews etc.

Some stats on me:
Female
4 year double varsity athlete
Near perfect score on the fitness test
33 ACT (30 M/35 E)
Can’t remember GPA or class rank
VP of debate club
Tier 3 major
Worked at a fast food restaurant for 2 years

I’ll be going to a liberal arts school on the east coast next year, I don’t want to say which one on the forum because of privacy. Overall I don’t think there was one defining thing on my application that got me the scholarship. I’m not a minority nor am I low income (although I’m far from being paris hilton) However through my interview and personal statement I think it showed how much I wanted this. Good luck on your applications and please reach out!

Congratulations. And thank you for offering your insights to those coming behind you.

Was wondering, what do being a minority or from a low-income household have to do with anything? Do they bequeath some kind of advantage for obtaining an ROTC scholarship?

From what I have heard, they add “points” to your application and improve your chances for a scholarship. However being a underrepresented minority or being from a low income family is not going to make up for an otherwise poor application. In my opinion I wouldn’t focus on the things that you cannot change like ethnicity but rather focus on test scores or training to max out the fitness test.
