I am currently applying to USAFA as an international candidate. I'm embarrassed to say that i have used mj twice before and i don't plan on doing that ever again in my life. I'm planning to select yes for marijuana use in the AF Form 2030. But if i do, will i lose my chance to join USAFA. And what are the procedures i will have to go through after i select yes on that specific form.

The military is not surprised by prior experimental usage. Be honest, as you are planning to be.

I don’t know the process for foreign nationals’ medical screening, but if asked about it by a doctor, being consistently honest is the key.

Thank you. And I am definitely gonna be honest. The thing im worried about is my parents

Thank you for your reply. Yes i am definitely going to be honest. The only thing im worried about is my parents getting to know about this. I don’t want them to be worried about something they don’t need to be worried about because im not addicted or i am never gonna use it again. What is the procedure for US candidates if they say they have used mj before?

The DODMERB exam and questionnaire with all 3 of my sons didn’t include me (mom) needing to know what each son answered in their questionnaire. IOW, it can be completed without them knowing what you answered (although I did ‘help’, by choice). Additionally, they had their exams without me present in the room. I had to go, to sign them in as they were minors, but I didn’t go back to the exam with them. So their conversations were private with the doctor.

I “helped” them with their questionnaires. I sat beside them, not able to see what they wrote, and helped guide the info provided as they filled out the questionnaire. IMO this is important so as to not answer more than is asked. To not self diagnose. You probably don’t know the actual medical treatment plans for things in your past, and once you move on to the next question, I don’t think you can go back and change your answers. You don’t want to make issues for yourself that aren’t actual issues, so this questionnaire is one that a parent/guardian needs to assist or review, imo.

When it came time for the alcohol/drug use piece, I stepped away. Another approach would be to be honest with your parents ahead of time. Most would not be surprised because they were kids once too.

The USAFA honor code is clear - “We will not lie, steal or cheat, nor tolerate among us anyone who does.” Be honest on the form.
