Hello! I am currently a student enrolled in the AFROTC at a public university. I will be a sophomore next year and I am strongly considering applying to the AFA. I did really well in high school in terms of grades and extracurriculars but I had a rough start my first quarter of college and although my grades have improved since the beginning of the year, they are definitely not what they used to be. I never even considered the military until I got to college, hence why I did not apply to the Academies or for ROTC scholarships in high school, but after one year in the AFROTC I have fallen in love with everything it stands for. I am wondering what my chances are for getting into the AFA. How much do they look at high school grades versus college grades, and is it helpful that I have already completed one year of the AFROTC? Any advice will be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Any reason you want to start that 4-year timer until commissioning again?

Very good point. I love the AFROTC but I honestly wish that it were a bigger part of my college life and I do not mind restarting after two years of college if it is doing something that I am passionate about.

Sounds good. I would suggest working with both USAFA and your AFROTC commander, as you have an additional avenue of nomination through AFROTC. I'm not current on the ROTC to USAFA process.

Grades not exactly stellar? Are we talking a 2.0, 3.0, or just what? We can hardly advise you without more specifics. Yes, it is great that your college grades show an upward trend, but is it upward from 1.5 or upward from 2.5? Big difference. Also, what about your high school scores? Your SAT? etc.

Certainly there are folks who move from AFROTC to USAFA (and the opposite way, too).

Unless there is another compelling reason (maybe college tuition or something), I wouldn't consider it worth the opportunity/time cost to start over at USAFA when you already have 2 years of AFROTC under your belt.

I went to a public university for two years and did AFROTC. I just finished my freshman year hear at USAFA. Youll be fine. Apply. I am glad that I did it. The opportunities here are immense
