I know there is already a post about this from 2013 at:

But I really don't think there is enough attention and clarity around my question. I understand that for JROTC units, they must be a Distinguished Unit to nominate cadets to OTHER service academies. But what if they are the same branch? I know for USMA, Army JROTC units can nominate cadets (given they meet qualifications) but is it the same for USAFA? I am in an AFJROTC unit but we are not a distinguished unit. That prevents me from getting a JROTC nomination to say USMA or USNA, but what about USAFA?

As per AFJROTC INSTRUCTION 36-2010: (from 2018)

10.5.1. Air Force Academy Nominations: Students will apply for nomination to the Senior Aerospace Science Instructor (SASI), SASI must certify that the applicants meet the basic eligibility requirements and have or will have successfully completed the prescribed AFJROTC program by the end of the school year. The SASI will contact USAFA Admissions for an AFJROTC Nomination Appointment form.

10.5.2. Holm Center Operations Support will send a list of the AFJROTC Distinguished Unit Award winners to USNA and USMA Service Academies. The Service Academies will maintain a Distinguished Unit Award list so cadets who apply to Academies on line will get additional consideration. (AFI 36-2019 and USAFA Sup to AFI 36-2019)

I apologize in advance if this was already answered, I am slightly confused by the wording.

If you are asking if your non-Honor AFJROTC unit can nominate to USAFA, then the answer is yes.

Here is the Federal statute.

Hello! I hope you are doing well. I had a similar question. I am part of a distinguished AFJROTC unit, and my SASI wants to nominate me for the USAFA. Does my SASI have to contact the Academy for the nomination forms? Also, is the Form O-761 part of the Academy JROTC nomination forms? If so, where can I attain that form?

You're way early. Candidate handbook will tell you to contact admissions for instructions. This is the form I was sent for last cycle. I'd still recommend following instructions in the handbook when it's released. All the positive contact with admissions you can get helps and is likely noted in your file. Parents contacting admissions for you will likely will get noted as well... negatively.

For fun, I tried this search string in Google:
“USAFA form for AFJROTC nomination”
Results were excellent.

And, agreed with poster above, it is waaaaay early. The current Class of 2027 cycle is kicking into high gear, and has a few months to run. Give your unit time to finish evaluating you for this entire school year. You have piles of things to get done for your application between now and your application deadline (plus any other SA, ROTC, colllege applications, etc, for your alternate plans). This will be one of the less complicated.

Don’t forget to follow USAFA guidance to apply for ALL noms for which you are eligible. That is usually 2 Senators, 1 Representative, VP and any other category.

Ok, sounds good. Thank you!

Thank you! I also just wanted to ask if the Senator, Representative, and VP nominations are first come first serve? Or can I just submit it whenever I am ready?

Search the websites for each of your nomination sources. There's no single way, date, or method nominations are selected. Google is your friend.

Your turn to do legwork. Each of those elected officials has their own process, deadlines and submission requirements. Go to their websites and do the research at the primary sites.

The VP nom info is on the SA website.

If you haven’t yet read every page, link, drop-down or hamburger menu link at the SA website, that is your first step, taking notes on due dates, tasks, deadlines, requirements, and then building out your action plan for that SA. The SA application process itself is a test of your critical thinking, research skills at primary sources, executive organization, attention to detail, perseverance and sheer determination. These traits are all valuable for future junior officers.
