AFROTC Field Training 2015--MAX 1 questions

Our son is there at MAX 1 too, enjoying the challenge and being with like-minded young men. It has been fun to get real letters from him. His girlfriend and her mom will be at the graduation.

Pima, thanks for the reminder about mess dress.

WAM, can you please remind me of the graduation start time? Many thanks.

Hello, all. My husband is currently away at field training, and I was wondering if there is anywhere online where pictures of field training are posted. Before transferring into ROTC, he was at the Academy, and they have a website dedicated to taking photos of cadets going through basic, so I'm just wondering if field training has the same thing.

I also am wondering if it would at all be possible to surprise him for the graduation from field training. I know that they had to give the contact information of all civilians that would be attending in past years, so I'm guessing that is how it is this year as well, but I figured it would be worth asking about.

If there are any others on here who have loved ones currently going through field training, I would love to chat! I don't know much about it. Any insight is much appreciated.
My husband is there too! he flys back next Tuesday :) just a few days away. I've been kinda bummed because I haven't heard anything from him not even a letter. Has your husband sent you any letters?
He has! Not nearly as many as when he was at the Academy's basic training though. He's said in several letters that he hardly gets any time to write. Also, their mail was messed up so he went over two weeks without receiving any letters from me (and I was sending him a letter a day). I can't believe they're almost done! The day after tomorrow and we'll be in their arms again.

I agree, my DS flew home the next day. I recall that they were handed back their phones after graduation, he called us and said I leave tomorrow on X flight.

They basically have an AF school bus that does a shuttle. It is not a taxi out situation. They may spend hours in the airport waiting because as they drop off Max1, they will pick up Max2. Repeat for bulk...IE, his flight is 6 p.m., incoming class last flight is 2 p.m. than he will be there at 2 to pick up the incoming.

DS waited a few hours incoming, but because his flight was the 1st out leaving, he basically arrived and went immediately through to boarding.

He still was exhausted after arriving at 11 a.m. He slept until 5 because he had to get up early for the bus. After that we went through his bag, pulled his blues and ABUs, sent them to the dry cleaners next day.

Off topic, but if you have not purchased a mess dress, start saving your money, because most units will have a dining out/in and 300/400s wear mess dress.
~ It costs @$400.
~~ In our DSs unit no 300 wore their blues with a bow tie, it was mess dress. He wore his 4 times before commissioning.
~~~ Since commissioning, he has worn at least 1x a year. Actually, I would say 2-3X a year because his classmates, like him also got married, and they wore them to their wedding or the crossed sabres. He also went Pilot and wore it to their winging.
Do they get their phones back after graduating and get to keep them for the rest of their time there? I'm so anxious to be back in contact. :)
Our daughter is at Max 1. Can anyone confirm the time of the graduation ceremony on 6/15/15? Many thanks in advance.
Hi, fellow AF parent. My son's girlfriend says be there at 9am, ceremonies (and lunch, did another commenter say?) from 10am-1pm. We are seven time zones away , so she is going for us.
God bless them all!
The countdown is on! I just wanted to say how blessed I feel to have found this particular site and reading all the posts, it helps this parent to feel "in touch" .
Congratulations Max 1 cadets - Aim High.
Lucky you!!! I'm soooo bummed he hadn't sent me any. I got his address from an email his ROTC commander sent and I've sent a few the last week of May but no response. When he was in basic training he sent a ton :/ I can't wait to get that first phone call from him, he better have a good excuse :p lol
Oh I totally understand! Gosh I'm just so happy they graduate tomorrow! Cody wrote that he wasn't sure if they would get their phones back or not. I sure hope they do! A phone call would be amazing.
I'm so happy too! Time usually goes by so quick but these last few weeks since he left dragged by so slow lol feels like I haven't seen him in months! I really hope they get their phones back tomorrow after graduation. Fingers crossed*** what time does your husband get in on Tuesday? We're in California and I think mine comes in around 5pm
3:00 in Iowa! I know I'll be dying for the day to go by.
They'll probably get their phones back if they're leaving the same day of graduation to the airport to go back home.
They gave us our phones the night before we left max 5 last year, but we could only charge our phones. So you couldn't make a call until the buses basically pulled off.
Aww bummer, was hoping to get a phone call tomorrow. I'll keep the phone close by just in case. But thank you for letting us know what to expect :)
Is your son a pilot? My husband is trying
Yes, he is a C130J pilot.
FWIW, UPT is a very hard 24 months.
~ UPT is @13 months
~ Water Survival and SERE
~ School house (airframe) 6-9 months.
If you have not read raimius's blog (his signature line has a link), please do. In essence, college is a flipping cake walk. At UPT it is 12-14 hour days between work and chair flying... Monday through Thursday. Relax Friday night and Saturday...hit the books Sunday starting at noon....36 hours down time. Repeat for a year just to wing out of UPT. Repeat again at their airframe school house (IE...SJAFB for F15E, Little Rock C130J, stc.)
You will look back in a few years from now and see SFT differently
There is a person that does go around and take pictures but they don't publish it publicly so that cadets from later MAXs don't have an advantage on studying the pictures. The only time you will be able to see the pictures is at the graduation ceremony.
Is there a website where I can find the graduation pictures?
I didn't! And I'm glad. He's on the bus out right now and he said that people only got about an hour with their families!
Hi, I have a son in Max 2, was wondering if anyone could point me to the information on their graduation date and time? I can't find it online anywhere! (We already have ID's.) Also, I got some mail returned from Maxwell, as unclaimed. Do they have a different address while they're at Camp Shelby? Apologize for posting on here, as I know you're all Max 1 followers, but wasn't sure who else to ask :). Thanks!!
They have the same address while they're at Shelby, but I know that the mail situation is pretty bad. Cody went over two weeks without receiving any mail because there was nobody at Shelby in charge of it.
Thanks, guess he'll get he returned mail when he gets home! Do you have any idea where I can find out graduation details?
