AFROTC Pilot Slot: What Happens If...

The following is taken from info provided on the BaseOps website regarding "How to Get an AFROTC Pilot Slot": Cadet’s volunteering for ENJJPT must understand that ENJJPT is a fighter-oriented program and if successfully completed, will likely result in a fighter or bomber assignment based on Air Force needs; and if eliminated from ENJJPT, they will not be eligible for any other UPT.
So what happens to a cadet who is eliminated from ENJJPT? Also, if a cadet gets a pilot slot for UPT, what happens if the cadet is eliminated from UPT? Where do they go? What position do they serve? What is the length of their commitment?

Once you are "eliminated" you are sent to the retention board. The results are either for you to stay in the Air Force or be discharged. The cause of your elimination will be a significant factor on your retention. One that quits would in theory have a harder time being retained compared to a person that washes out. Depending on the state of the Air Force you will have a greater chance on either retention or discharge. Currently you are more inclined to be retained even if you managed to get a DUI while driving a motorcycle without a helmet with the Sq/CC's daughter. A couple of years before it was a luck of the draw for anyone to stay in if they had quit pilot training. If you managed to be retained you are sent to the reclass board where you are given a new job. During this entire "elimination" process you are at your pilot training base doing casual status while getting the process in order. Once you are reclassed to a new AFSC (And it can be another rated position) you will fulfill the commitment of that AFSC whether it's the 4-5 years commitment from commissioning or additional years for AFSC training such as Intel/Space/CSO/RPA.

JMPO, and some more facts.

Flight Evaluation Board. That is step one. It is a board with experienced pilots that review your record. It not only exists at UPT, but in the school houses too. It is something like a courtroom. There will be a panel, and they will ask questions regarding how you came to this point. This is where they decide if they should recommend you to allow you to x-train. I know many UPT students that busted and the board recommended that they go to UNT. However, it is also not common. You have to have some strengths to prove you are worthy for a UNT or RPA slot.

DS had friends that the FEB said nope...no rated slot for you. From there they go to what Alpha was stating a reclassification board. If memory serves me right. It took them about 4 months between going to the FEB and reclassification.
~ Some are Intel now. Some are Cyber. Some are maintenance.

OBTW FWIW, ENJJPT is really competitive to get a slot into as a SUPT. I believe the number is less than 200 in total that wing out of ENJJPT every year, including the Euro Nato students. Whereas, the other 3 UPT bases will wing close to 1000 in total.

Unless things have changed. They will get a pilot slot and than in the fall as a 400 apply for ENJJPT. It is not that when they get a pilot slot as a 300 they are already sorted out into which UPT base they will go to upon commissioning.

ENJJPT is going to use basically the same type of system as the rated board. PCSM score is going to be a factor for selection. PCSM is 3 parts. TBAS, AFOQT and flight hours. If you do not have a PPL, try to get in at least 21 hrs in before meeting the rated board to increase your chances for UPT.

ENJJPT is heavily reliant on RSS & FT rank as well. Just having a high PCSM is not enough. We had three cadets go up for the board with 90+ pcsm's, only one got ENJPPT, he was top third RSS & DG at FT.
