Has anyone here been awarded an AFROTC scholarship yet this year on a reboard? Seems like all of the reboards I've seen mentioned here are still in reboard status. I know the procedure this year is that reboards can be considered at every subsequent board, but I'm wondering whether, in fact, the reboards are going to be backloaded to the final board?

great question

Thats not how it works. When first boarded everyone gets scored. At the end of the board, all applicants including reboards, who are above a certain cutoff line are awarded a scholarship. At the end of the years cycles folks who did not receive a scholarship are notified. Keep working backup plans.

Okay, thanks for the clarification. Then to the same effect would be dropping the cutoff line only on the last board, which would have the effect of picking up reboards.

The cutoff probably drops lower with each board.

That's essentially the question. If that has happened here (there have already been five boards), then one would expect that at least some reboarded candidates would have been awarded scholarships. So far, though, I'm not seeing evidence of that on this forum. Plus, the award stats (SAT/ACT and GPA) have been pretty static, which also suggests that, so far, there hasn't been a diminution of the cutoff lines.
Applying the historical data to what has been awarded so far, it seems entirely likely that somewhere in the last two boards the cutoff line(s) will drop, but it's anyone's guess whether it will be Board 6, Board 7, or both.

1. This forum doesnt constitute the entire universe, or even a representative sample, of applicants.
2. There is far more to a score that SAT/ACT and GPA. Most importantly there is leadership. There is also CFA, interview and essays.
3. People keep applying throughout the cycle. The pool keeps getting bigger, not smaller.
4. It's their program. The cutoff line isn't necessarily lowered in the sense you mean. It's probably more of there are X scholarships available for this board, so the top X applicants get it. Later boards have more scholarships. The bar is not lowered
5. Keep spending your time worrying about it as that is, in fact, the most productive use of your time. Certainly dont waste any effort on backup plans.

1. It's the only sample that there is.
2. There is a reason that the AFROTC Admissions person posts the SAT/ACT, GPA data here. It's useful. It's not the entirety, sure, but ignoring it strikes me as utterly stupid considering that the information is being offered. Clearly, the AF thinks it important. AFROTC has no essays, and the AFROTC Admissions person has expressly downplayed the importance of the fitness test at the scholarship application juncture. Now the interview IS important.
3. The application deadline was in mid-January, and boards are meeting through March. At some point the pool is a fixed universe.
4. This comment, respectfully, is incoherent. If the bar isn't lowered, and files aren't reviewed or rescored again - which is what you wrote earlier - then reboarding would be entirely futile. In other words, if a file is scored as, say, an "85." And the cutoff for that board was a "90." And that "90" is never decreasing - which is what you are writing here - then the "85" person will never be awarded a scholarship. Do you see the problem?
5. This is really condescending. Respectfully, I don't need to be lectured about plans. They are well taken care of either way.

Sorry. It wasnt meant to be condescending. It was definitely meant to be sarcastic. You waste your time and energy worrying about this. However it works there is nothing you can do to change it. Further, even if you had every iota of info on how the process worked, what would you do with it? Will the time waiting pass faster? Would you have any better knowledge of whether you will be awarded a scholarship? Go have some fun, or study for that next test, or anything else that's useful...

I think its human nature to banter, speculate, etc. If anyone thinks the attempted tea-leaf-reading here is unwarranted, definitely avoid gazing at college con, and A2C!

Apology accepted.
For the most part, I don't believe these decisions are random. So if they aren't generally random, then there is a plan and a system. They tell some; they don't tell all. As a parent, I do my best to find out as much as I can and then adjust expectations accordingly. While reasonable minds might differ, I think that is a beneficial thing to do in life.
I think of these things like investing. Some might view it as akin to throwing darts. I think there's more to it than that.

I get what you are saying. I’m a mom, going through this whole process with my 3rd son. A couple thing I have learned over the years:

-while it is interesting to banter, ponder, wonder, contemplate (I enjoy it )....its can also be all consuming. Sometimes it’s best to check out of this, and focus on other things. Like our kiddos Very. Last. Semester. Of their K-12 careers. For ones sanity.

-no amount of figuring, statistical analysis, forecasting, comparing stats matters. They can (and I suspect do) do whatever they want within guidelines. And what they do this cycle may be slightly different next time. There is a reason it’s not a totally transparent process. There is a subjective element to this process that cannot be measured.

-most everything posed as a new question/thread on the forums has been discussed before. Google it and you will be brought to an appropriate spot(s) to read about things you are interested in. Great for info gathering. Just be careful about resurrecting zombie threads 😂

-the deadline is the deadline, expect to hear by then. Anything earlier is a magical day! And have and EXECUTE plans B, C. With excitement and vigor!

All the above is easier said than done, but this 3rd go-around with all this (and even more if you count ALL the academies, ALL the ROTC programs applied for) is much more peaceful with those realizations/acceptances.

Hang in there everyone, stay busy to keep your mind occupied on other things. We will all have definitive answers soon! We are on that 15yard line!!

I'd like to say that the statistics is just for you to see what the results have been academically. One person might have high scores but low interview score and vice versa. Unless you know your interview score per category, you would not know your chances.

That being said, the last board will have essentially almost everyone reboarded as interview deadline has approached. Not every reboard will be carried.

Lastly, rest assured whatever the outcome, it is not a defeat nor a complete victory. While scholarships are very important, I hope everyone still has the mindset and goal of becoming an officer!

So Kinnem mentioned it too, just have fun. Focus on the rest of your school, graduate, etc. You have done everything you could and just leave it on our hands. Analyze all you want but the results will not change. I hope you understand and I am sorry if the statistics seem to affect your mindset, it is really there just for situational awareness.

Do they only look at reboards in the final board or are they relooked at each board they are placed on?
