Packer said:Any idea how many AFROTC scholarships are available? I have seen the number 900 for this year but not from an official source so I dont know if it is accurate or even close. If it is 900 there would only be 2-3 type 1 non-tech scholarships available.
I have absolutely no clue on the amount for this yr., but 900 would seem to be in the ballpark.
Traditionally ROTC awards mimic SA apptmts, plus or minus a few percentage points. AFROTC is a bigger pool because 95% of AFA applicants will apply as plan B, but the reverse for ROTC candidates is not true....95% of ROTC applicants do not apply for AFA.
The fact is if you look at their site, you will see it says this:
5% of all scholarships awarded to AFROTC candidates are Type 1.
95% of all Type 1 are tech.
So if 900 are awarded only 2-3 would be non -tech Type 1.
The true key piece missing is how many apply. I am going to assume it is 10K+.
That means 10% are awarded, and 5% of that 10% are type 1. 5% of the Type 1 are non-tech.
20% go Type 2
75% go Type 7.
Now let's address the type 7. If 900 are awarded and I did my math correct @ 675 will get a Type 7. If they have even 7K applicants, not 10K; the recipient was deemed by AFROTC HQ as the top 10% nationally. Not too shabby!
