Just went and looked for my son and it says he received a scholarship. I am totally shocked. How do you find out what type of scholarship that was awarded?

He applied for Army and Air Force, didn't get selected 1st board with Army and in the interview, the interviewer told son he was an outstanding candidate. And in the Air Force interview, the interviewer told him that he had a shot but should retake the ACT to better his chance, those results aren't out yet. So go figure.

Thanks for any info. Gary

can you copy and paste the message that comes up in red at the top? Does it specify anything or only say that he got a scholarship?

Just wondering, since I did not get one and will be re-boarded.

Congratulations to you and your son!

It just says that he has received a scholarship. I can try to paste when I get home.

if it doesn't say anything else then don't worry about copying/pasting. a letter (or a package or something) should come in the mail explaining everything

I just spoke with someone has the full results of this past board and he informed me that there were 221 AFROTC scholarships given out. Does anyone know how many scholarship are available total? And how many per type (1, 2, 7)?

Notification says:

Congratulations! You have been awarded a 4-year Type-2 Scholarship. For more information......

BRupert,

If they keep it to the numbers of the past yrs., approximately 900 will receive a scholarship. 5% go to Type 1 = 45 or so. 15% go Type 2 = 135 or so, and the remaining 720 scholarships will be Type 7. If I recall approx 5000 are boarded. So, it is just under 20% of those boarded that are awarded a scholarship of some type.

Letter came yesterday, never got the mail, son got a type 7, the school he listed on the application was a private, does that mean he has to go to a public school to use the scholarship? Or can we pay the difference a private college?

Thanks so much, Gary

gareper,
A Type 7 must be used at a univeristy that accepts In State tuition rates. As far as using his scholarship to attend a private, he would have to convert his 4 yr Type 7 to a 3 yr Type 2. I think the Type 2 is capped at $18,000 for the last three years, so the first year and any cost over the $18,000 would be on your own dime. The letter he received should ask if you want to keep the Type 7 or convert it to the Type 2, at least my son's did last year. Congrats on the scholarship.
