Some of you or your sons/daughters have AIM tomorrow morning, or the next two Sundays. I'm heading off bright and early tomorrow because I'm too close for a plane with about a three hour drive.

So good luck to everyone, I'm excited for a fun and challenging week.

We are driving our son down in the morning, have a great week!
 
DS is going tomorrow morning. Out of all the summer programs/seminars he went to, he is the most nervous about this one.

This is the only program which takes away your cell phone on the first day and locks it up until the last day. He said, "Dad, the Coast Guard is not joking around."

We drove about 16 hours to reach CT this evening (grateful for grandparents who live along the way so we had a nice visit) and my DD is super anxious but also so excited. She calls AIM her "biggest adventure yet".

Good luck to all the AIMsters. I hope the week shows you just how much you are capable of achieving.
 
It is said that AIM provides the most realistic taste of summer basic training as compared to programs of the other service academies.
 
Dropped off daughter at AIM this afternoon. So cool, the experience the kids will get this week and the following weeks.
 
Good luck to all of you and parents! Feeling super nervous and excited as my DD prepares to fly out by herself this Saturday. I'm hoping to hear from some of you on Friday to see how it went for week 1.

P.S. Still got a week left for her to improve on that PFE! Again, good luck everyone!
 
To the parents who actually dropped off your children.... Got a quick question for you. When you dropped off your child, did you get a chance to notice what everyone was wearing? We recently realized that there were two AIM packing lists after going crazy, looking for navy blue or light gray crew neck T shirts that were on one list. The other list said nothing about crew neck and said colors may vary. We got mostly different shade of gray to be safe (and one dark blue, not navy) but it would've been nice to get v- neck in various colors. Did everyone really stick to all gray and navy blue? Also for shorts... One list said long enough not to show underwear. We got girls' shorts with built in spandex looking thing to make sure underwear doesn't show. And then saw on the other packing list that compression shorts CANNOT show. Hers is not separate compression shorts but may look like it because they are longer than the outer shorts. Do you think they really care about those small details as long as she looks decent, modest, and put together? Are we being paranoid over nothing?
 
I think she will be fine. Look at the website (flikr) you might see her on the account for this year. The pictures will show what the Aimsters were issued...Long basket ball shorts grey shirts and a cap.
 
DD took guys shorts. We also adhered to the crew neck navy and grey rules but it wasn't easy as most girls shirts are v. As for what people showed up in....everything. Jeans, khaki shorts, flip flops, etc. My DD went in her navy shirt and white socks but most didn't show up that way. It's a very relaxed "registration" as you just pick up your name tag. Once they went into Smith, I figure it wasn't so relaxed. ;)

Yes, v-neck would have been so much easier. My DD also wanted dry-fit tshirts, not just normal tshirts, and they practically have no crewnecks for girls in dry-fit. We were seriously thinking about guys shorts too, but my DD is XS in women's, so we couldn't find the size in men's. I guess I should stop stressing now.
 
Are AIM session 1 photos on Flickr? Anyone have a link or info? I don't see it on the Flickr CGA page as a group. Thanks

Look up Paul Duddy on Facebook...he takes pics of Swab summer and said he may post aimster pfe's from today :)
 
PFE is on Mondays now? It used to be towards the end of the week. I thought they'll have some time to adjust and build up some more over the week, but I guess not. No pictures so far.
 
I'm not sure if others noticed, but the USCGA PFE standard picture that Paul Duddy posted is slightly different from the PFE scoring table we all got on the USCGA website. For example, DD is doing about 20 push-ups now, which was 65 on the table given on the website. Here, it says only 60. On the other hand, she ends up with a higher running score with this table. I wonder which table we could rely on when determining the scores.

I wouldn't worry about it, everyone is in the same boat...and with the adrenaline of doing it there, she probably did more than she expected. She'll be fine :)
