My son is sitting at DQ (as expected) for all 3 SA's he is applying to as well as NROTC national scholarship since mid-October for history of cataract (formed by Nerf sword trauma to the eye 8 yrs ago) and subsequent insertion of an artificial intra-ocular lens (IOL).

USMA Admissions says they will definitely request a waiver. USNA says my son won't know if a waiver is requested unless additional info is requested through DODMERB, and USAFA has requested AMI after the DQ of three additional eye exams. My son hasn't asked them if they are requesting a waiver. Funny thing is that the original eye exam provider through DODMETS said they already did those three tests in the original exam but I don't think they are correct for various reasons - we will see how that turns out.

I find it interesting that his USAFA application has only been complete not even two weeks versus others have been done a long time but that they were the first to jump on the AMI request.

Anyway, will the results from the USAFA-requested AMI of additional eye tests then be shared with all the entities he is sitting at DQ with?

Also, does the USAFA AMI request after the DQ occurred mean this IS the actual waiver review process (i.e. that they have initiated the waiver request and need more info)?

My son's condition is a tough waiver but it has been done before at various academies so he is giving it a shot and is happy to serve in any color uniform with the service that finds him medically up to par. Hoping to have a shot at the AROTC national scholarship and waiver as well.

If he's already been DQ'ed by USAFA then you are correct, this is the waiver request processing. I wold think the results for the AMI will go into his medical records and would therefore be available to the other academies, but that's just surmise. I do not know that to be a fact. I'd suggest you keep a copy of what you send in for the AMI in case my surmise is incorrect.

Yes AMI's go into Medical records. All academies have access to DoDMERB. Great advice keep copies of all correspondence. I always advise candidates scan and keep a file of every document/communication with DoDMERB and each academy, nomination source and/or ROTC. You never know when something additional is requested or somehow misplaced.
