Hey, I just got a random email from my apparent guidance counselor. It reads as follows:

Hi E******,

Can you please call me regarding your application?

Thank you,
L** A***

It's terribly short and ominous. Should I be worried or is this normal? Thanks

Well well well, what'd you do this time...

Just kidding, I'm not sure what could've happened. Just keep us updated, if you choose to do so..

What exactly is an "apparent guidance counselor" ?

True, what do you mean "apparent" This makes it a bit suspicious? Have you ever spoken to this person before? If it is your guidance counselor, I assume the email is regarding something they need to complete for your application, and they may have further questions regarding something specific.

I said that because of the connotation but also because I've not spoken to them before.

I've got another question, have your SAT scores been received by the academy yet? I sent mine in almost a month ago and still nothing.

Do you mean you had the College Board people send them? Routine items such as that will eventually show up in your online view.

Maybe we're talking about an Admissions Counselor?
Your Admissions Counselor is listed in the Candidate Information System. If this Email was received from that person, it is as the kids used to say "legit".

What do you mean by "apparent guidance counselor?" If you mean your Blue & Gold Officer, his / her contact info (including email) will be in CIS. Most BGOs also identify themselves as such in correspondence, though many BGOs use their personal email for correspondence.

If you mean someone from USNA admissions, again, that person should ID him/herself as such and the email should come from usna.edu. You can also look up that person in CIS.

If you mean a school guidance counselor, can't help you.

It's not uncommon for BGOs or even USNA Admissions to contact candidates about their application. Would not take it as a good or bad sign.

If you are suspicious, call the Academy admission DIRECTLY, not the number in the email and then ask to speak to the person that is mentioned in the email.

If you don't know who this person is and have never communicated previously, I would first make sure the email address is legit and actually associated with USNA and not some random 'gmail' account. Also as others have indicated, the person should have identified themselves so you clearly know who they are and where they work. I also am not familiar with term 'apparent' guidance counselor as it relates to USNA.

DD received an email similar to this in '19. It looked like spam. It was not. USNA still uses the 1950's font, and admissions seems to be brief in their emails. Making it look suspicious if you have not communicated with them prior to the email. I would respond.
