If you are a freshman in college - is it possible to get a LOA - for example “all you need is a specific college gpa and a Nomination.” Everything else is good - or does that just not happen - and we wait until after 1st semester grades regardless.... everything else is completed - and nominations are not given out until sometime in Nov. in our location.

I was told by my RC back in May that no, LOAs are not given to college applicants. I’ve heard of at least 5 for this cycle so far, so he was either wrong or he just didn’t want to give any to college applicants in my region. (He has been replaced, so I don’t know if it will change now).

These appointments from the class of 2022 seem to prove otherwise:

63) Snowboardmom / DS / LOE /17-Feb-18 / Accepting /KY-04 / Congressional / College Reapplicant
105) ArmyBuckeye2022 / Self / LOA / 07-Apr-18 / Accepted / OH-16 / Congressional / College Re-Applicant

Yes you can. However, generally speaking, LOAs are reserved for applicants they are seeking. Or completing class composition goals. As an example, someone with athletic talents. LOAs are not a guarantee, you still need to complete your application and get a nomination from the various sources available to you. If you have completed a year of college and your course studies parallel Plebe year academics, you've demonstrated you can handle it. So your chances of an appointment are greater.

What's stated above is correct. You definitely can, but remember that goal is an appointment so don't stress over it.

West Point can give a LOA to whomever they want to.

LOE is NOT the same thing as an LOA. If a reapplicant, you have to ask yourself what has improved enough from your last attempt to go from a TWE to an LOA, possible but unlikely.

I fully understand the distinction. Its been stated on this forum ad infinitum. I posted BOTH a LOE & LOA purposely to show that each remains a (remote) possibility
