Is that a final exam?
My younger son, who graduated from CMA last month took his exam in January and passed with no problem.. He said it wasn't nearly as bad as he thought it would be. He even had a 100% score in the navigation section and mid 80% scores in the 70% sections.. 'Rules' was the only section that was even remotely close! Overall he actually did better than his older brother and I did on our thirds exam..
Good Luck.. although if you have been paying attention in class these last 4 (or maybe 5) years you won't need it.
If I am not mistaken, this is their Coast Guard Exam.
The Coast Guard license exam is commonly referred to as ‘Thirds’ at all the maritime schools. The exam is generally, but not always, the final examination given before graduation. The testing lasts 4 days and covers 7 sections for ‘deckies’. Those sections for the Mates are:
Navigation – Chart Plot
Rules of the Road
The first three sections listed require a 70% to pass. The last four require 90% to pass. In addition there are exams for the Radar Observers endorsement, flashing light (signaling) and the GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress Signaling System) license. Those are administered earlier in the year in a corresponding academic class.
I’m not sure what the sections are for the engineers, but I think their exam lasts for the same length of time.
Spoke to DS yesterday - he is exhausted. Correction to my earlier post; exams start Tuesday
I would say good luck, but I really don't think any of you need luck.....you made it far this by ACTA .....not ...... Verba......so now, just do what you know to do!!!!
Good luck to all 1c as they begin this final journey!
Prayers for all to stay healthy in mind and body. Take those B complex vitamins in the morning and calcium and Vitamin d at night.
What do Engine do when they take their test? How many days? What test?
Here are the sections for the Coast Guard 3rd Engineer Unlimited, Steam or Motor exam.
Motor Plants, Part I
Motor Plants, Part II
Engineering Safety & Environmental Protection
General Engineering Subjects
Steam Plants, Part I
Steam Plants, Part II
Like the Mates exam, the test takes 4 days, but unlike the mates ALL the sections are 70% to pass..
Separate names with a comma.
