Announcement Party!

Wow, Kamajama, I personally think the surprise party was a wonderful idea. I wish I could have done it, my son would've loved it. Just like your son, my son received his LOA in July and his DoDMERB was cleared in August so all he was waiting on was a nomination. My son was home when his appointment packet from USMA arrived though.

We gave our son a surprise 17th birthday party recently. I recruited a couple of his best friends in on it. They contacted everyone via facebook with party info. We rented a Karaoke restaurant and everyone was waiting for him when we arrived. The look on his face when he open that door was priceless, I think it almost scared him when they yelled out "surprise". I bet he'll always remember that party.

I asked my plebe-to-be and he thought it was a wonderful idea and he would love it!!! He has an LOA with a nomination from his senator but waiting on a medical waiver.

I didn't open his mail. He did. It was a LOA sorry...don't have the lingo down. His LOA was dated July 25th. His interview was in December, so the nomination letter came mid-January. Once the nomination was posted online I was told about the blue folder that would be coming by a father whose son is a plebe this year. The envelope with the folder happened to arrive the day before the party. You know this is ridiculous. It wasn't a public pedestal...it was him surrounded by all of those who love and adore him. We are from a very tight community. I am surprised that you all have such negative things to say to someone whom you don't even know, nor do you know the kid. It was a great party, he loved it...and duh...I would never have had the event if I knew he wouldn't love it too. Enough said. Seriously!...Good luck to all of you, and I am sure that you will all do what is appropriate for your child.

I think your son is lucky to have you! and I wish I would of known there was a party.. my D and would of come!!

My son actually told me that. And thank you. If I would have known you, I would have invited you both!!! We are so close to your area, it would be fun for all the plebes-to-be in the surrounding counties to meet up and get to know each other. They will be a part of the same class and flying in and out of the same airport-might be nice to have a travel buddy, as well.

kamajama,

Congrats to you and your son. I think it is great that you live in a place where the people that are so important to the process -- guidance counselors, teachers, relatives, and so on -- are willing to share in your candidates's, and your family's, joy. What a nice gesture. Whether we might do the same with our son, if he gets similar good news has nothing to do with sharing in your joy. Thanks for sharing it with us -- we "get" it! :thumb:
