No income tax is nice. 9.75% sales tax is not so nice. The job situation is great if you're in the right field.

I'll take that sales tax over a state income tax ANY day of the week. It's not a straight sales tax either....

Correct! Large purchases (the amount over about $3300) are not subject to the local component of the tax (only the 7% state component).

Services are not taxed. If you have Sears install your oven, you don't pay sales tax on the oven. Go figure...

Technically, there is a state income tax - only on dividends paid from non-Tennessee based corporations. First $600 exempt IIRC.

Property taxes are also relatively low in most jurisdictions.

Downside is that you get what you pay for. I guess if your kid is a recruited athlete for a SA, it doesn't matter... Just keep your nose clean. (Trying to stay topical)
