Any ideas of the % of nominated cadets that defer the appointment?

Just wondering in previous years how many cadets were appointed and decided to go somewhere else...yes I'm praying for many of those since we got no BFE yet!
Perhaps no one knows this answer but wanted to put the question out there.
I also want to encourage other kids that are waiting on their nomination...a no doesn't always mean a bad answer...when a door is closed a big window always opens...:thumb:

Here are Last years numbers from the admissions website if that helps.
Class of 2014 Profile:
Applicants - 11,627
Candidate Pool - 7543
Qualified Candidates - 2445
Offers of Admission - 1566
Total Admitted - 1294
Women 22.6%
Minorities 27.0%

so by these numbers around 272 decided not to go...I see...thanks :0)

Realize however; and it has already been brought up in a previous thread; that that is a "NORMAL YEAR" of appointments. In a "Normal" year, the academy would hand out anywhere from 1500-1700 appointments, known darn well that about 300-400 would turn it down. Well, 2 things have changed.

1) The economy is worse
2) The air force needs to cut back.

When the economy goes down-hill, more individuals enlist/apply/etc... for the military. As such, if they offered 1500-1700, they'd find themselves with only 200+/- turning it down. Hence; one of the reasons the academy is cutting back their appointments for this and the next couple years.

What you will find now, is that the academy will put out ONLY the number of appointments the want accepted. e.g. 1200. They will consider each of them as ACCEPTED unless the individual says otherwise by turning it down. If they turn it down, the academy will put out another batch to get them back to the number they wanted.

So; how many traditionally turn down an appointment unfortunately is 100% irrelevant this year. And probably for the next 1-2 years. The academy is going to offer LESS appointments overall; they are going to offer LESS up front for acceptance; and a lot LESS individuals are going to turn them down because of today's economy.
