Any letters received for Marine Option?

My son received his NROTC/Marine option scholarship last year. He didn't apply until December because his first choice was USNA. His application was reviewed in February and he was notified (by phone) of his award by the captain of the local recruiting station in late March. The paperwork arrived in mid-April. His online status changed right after he was notified by phone.

I have heard anecdotally that for every Marine option scholarship awarded, there are six Navy scholarships. That's strictly hearsay, but a person from Pensacola did confirm that there are many more Navy scholarships than Marine. He is a psychology major, which didn't seem to negatively impact his selection.

Hopefully this helps!

All Quiet

All quiet as of last night, 25th. Hoping to hear something regarding National 4 yr USMC...one of the 325 in the first round. unsure if we will get an email or a phone call (or carrier pigeon or blimp...).

Hang in there everyone.

NHUSNA,

the ration sounds about right. I called a NROTC battalion of a school my son is most interested in, and he said, in this freshmen class, he had 30 scholarship cadets: 1 5 marine option, and 25 navy option.

What I am not sure is whether this ratio means far tougher competition for the marine option scholarship in terms of qualifications (SAT, GPA, ECs, athletics, etc) or whether this just reflects a smaller applicant pool. In other words, is it correct to say, for the same qualification, you have better odds of getting AROTC or NROTC Navy option scholarship???

I also PM'ed you for some additional question.

For those of you that applied to the Naval Academy and for a MC scholarship, does your DODmerb page show anything about a scholarship? "In process"?

Son's DoDMERB page never had any info on Marine Corps ROTC until he was awarded scholarship. Now it says "Offer Extended"

Naval Academy entry still says "In Process"

Feb 7 All quiet

No word on USMC / NROTC scholarship as of Feb 7. Hope to hear something before the second board.

First Boards v Later

Well I have reason to believe that the first board has made it selections, but not yet made the school allocations. (otherwise we would have a few more people on here I would think saying their USMC options were rolling in.).

The next week or two should be interesting. YMMV. Film at 11.

Marine Option

You should have heard from your recruiter by now on the first board. My son heard within 2 weeks after that he didn't get it on the first board. I have seen on other threads that the next board meets on Feb. 26th. Can anyone confirm?

Word

Telecon from USMC ROTC coordinator Officer this evening. S has been awarded 4 yr with likely selection to his number one college, as he was on the first group.

Good News.

CONGRATULATIONS! Green4life :yay: Which school did your son choose?

Notifications after 1 March 2010

I did some googling around the web using search words "Marine Corps Recruiting Command"....when you find this link go to the NROTC area and you should see some documentation regarding fidcal year 2010 scholarship awards from an operation perspective. The deadline for completion of the review/board process in 1 March. Our OSO has told us that we should hear by mid-March regarding a scholarship award. Our first choice is Norwich and my son has already been accepted there.

phone call today

Son received a phone call tonight from his recruiter that he received 4 year scholarship with top school choice likely. He applied late 1/15/10 so I am guessing that his information was reviewed on the late Jan. board. His status has not changed on the NROTC web site. From what I am reading on these forums there doesn't seem to be much continuity in the notification process. I feel bad posting this because my son is a USNA candidate that is still waiting. Everytime someone posts that their status changes to "offer extended" or gets a call from their MOC it makes me crazy. Best wishes to all of you waiting. Hang in there!

FINALLY...got the letter and school choice (#1 - UT Austin). It was a long wait from November phone notification of award. Good luck to everyone. Looks like notifications are "in the mail"!

Wow.. Bob you are exactly right. Notifications for the second board will not decided until march 1st (meaning) letters will not arrive until late march or early April. This means some more patience will be pulled from each remaining applicant. Good Luck!

Also, I too have been accepted to Norwich University in the Corps of Cadets but my scholarship is for UFL and I have been confirmed to be #1 on the waitlist for transfer to Norwich University.

congrats

Wow SETXDAD you and your son have very much earned that scholarship. I have seen you, me and some other applicants and fathers on the forums 24/7 but it is glad to see the people who are involved the most get the rewards. Enjoy the dance around the house :)
