Any recent NROTC MO scholarships awarded yet?

Last week, my area received averages but neither my friend or I has heard anything else. Will they tell us if we did not receive the scholarship?

Water: you will not be notified at this because the process rolls you over to the next board. Good luck.

By the way, what did you mean that "your area received averages?"

Got NROTC Marine Option call yesterday

I've noticed that NROTC scholarships are already being handed out, has anybody received an NROTC Marine Option scholarship yet?

My son got the call from Capt. Johnson out of Portsmouth NH that he got one of the 22 scholarships. We have to find out what school it is associated with in about 2 weeks and we are waiting on acceptance letters.

Far from over but it was a great day in the house.

His buddy was awarded an AFROTC scholarship as well yesterday,

Both are waiting on hearing from academies, USNA for my son and USAFA for his buddy.

Merry Christmas!

We got the same thing,
Capt. sent out the statistics, 135 applicants and their average GPA, SAT and PFT scores and the average of the 22 winners.

They did it to let you now where you stand before they could tell you before they could release the names.

Care to share what those averages were? I'm just curious.

Did the Captain say how many applicants out of his station received the scholarship?

There were only 22 scholarships awarded nationally or in the region?

Not nationally....generally, it looks to be about 300 per year Marine Option NROTC 4-year National scholarships.

Recruiting command is divided into 6 Districts. While I'm sure there aren't strict quotas, it seems like they divide up the number of scholarships by district.

Last year, my son was told there were 35 spaces in his district. They awarded a little more than half on the early board and the remainder on the late board.

Congrats!!! That is fantastic news. What district are you in?
What a great present to put under the tree.
Our DS' classmate is waiting to hear if he will get selected. We're NorCal.

MJP

Just got a call from my recruiter letting me know I've got a scholarship! Good luck to everyone still waiting!!

DS just got confirmation he's been awarded a scholarship. Since he hadn't heard anything, he assumed he wasn't selected and called the Recruiting Officer to coordinate getting his application updated for the late board. The Recruiting Officer told him he didn't need to update his application as he was on the list of selectees.....

We're over the moon. It's been a bit of a journey. He competed last year as a high school senior and was competitive, but not selected.

We were prepared for that and switched to plan B as he went off to school as a College Programmer (with plan C, D, E....in our back pocket). He did well in the unit (summer orientation, field exercises, NROTC labs, PT) and had a good academic semester although to be honest, I don't think the board saw most of that as the early board met before most of his "updates" posted.

Main reason I'm posting here now is not to brag, but to encourage those still in the hunt. Often "no" doesn't mean "no"...it just means "not right now".

Last, it seems each District and RS notifies selectees differently. Some here have posted they got a packet in the mail first, some got an email, some got a call. For some reason, my DS's recruiter was waiting until he was back at school so the Marine Officer Instructor at his university could tell him.....

oh...and the portal still hasn't updated.

Good luck to those still on the hunt and don't get discouraged. Keep working. Keep striving. Semper Fidelis.

edit: he submitted from the the 9th Marine Corps District (basically Chicago to upper Arkansas).

Marine Option scholarship

Just got notified today I was awarded the 4-year Nat'l Marine Option Scholarship. I was in the 9th MCD

My stats are as follows:
23 ACT
292 PFT
3.2 High School GPA
Eagle Scout
Officer in NJROTC (1 Year)
NJROTC Participant (all 4 years)
Ranked 82/329 in class
Varsity and Letter for lacrosse 2 years, JV 1 year
Varsity swim 1 year
Varsity XC 1 year
JV track 1 year
Year round Club lacrosse 3 years.

Most important: Re-Applicant. I was not selected on either board last year, I reapplied as a college-program Midshipman after I enrolled in college and was selected on the first round.

Congratulations to all of you hearing over the holidays!

To the other applicants: hang in there. There is still time for notification, another board and plans B, C and D. Focus on the goal.

Congrats USMCDad and mattjr96

My DS was the same. Highly competitive yet not selected. He enrolled as a College Program mid as well and got selected in the early board.

So far, only a phone call on 19 Dec. He was told paperwork is coming. Portal not updated.

We assume/hope the school assignment will be for the one he is currently at.

Unknowns are when the scholarship will actually kick in (probably Fall 2015) and if this means he may now be able to go to CORTRAMID this summer.

All in all, a big relief and a great Christmas present.
