I will have my Liaison Officer interview for AFA in probably 1 week. Does anyone have some tips/ tricks, or questions that they know of that the LO will ask?

Congrats on making it to the interview! Most importantly, you want to let your passion and personality show. Know why you want to join the Air Force and why the Academy specifically. Research things like the cadet code of honor and a little bit about academics and extracurriculars at the school.

You'll also want to have a bunch of stories, especially involving leadership, that illustrate scenarios or values they will ask about. Examples are a time you faced a leadership challenge, struggled, worked with a diverse group, or showed integrity, selflessness, and initiative. Good luck!

They will be the standard questions as well as some that may catch you off guard. Be yourself, but your very best positive self. I'll let others cite specifics on the questions.

Although I am the Ultimate HCopter parent, surprisingly I did not practice interviews with my DDs, although I gave them insight into what I was thinking when I interviewed candidates at (investment bank). As a parent, you only know 1/16 of your child. When they were born, you were the whole pie - but as they get older, others have positive impact and shape your child. So you only see part of who they really are. For that reason, I don't want to interview them, and have any influence on the other 15/16ths.

To the candidate, you do not ever want to walk away from an interview saying, I wish he had asked me this, or that.....so get in your mind 5 things you want to convey in the interview that are most compelling about why you are the ideal candidate for that program, SA, etc. You will be asked questions you weren't expecting, or about things you aren't an expert. However, you are the expert of YOU. Make sure you get in everything about YOU. Don't let the interview veer off into something not about you.

Not every Evaluator ask the same questions so it depends. Honestly just be yourself and answer the questions truthfully. Look sharp and sit up straight. Be prepared to get asked the basic questions like why the Air Force and make sure you know about the honor code and the core values.

I can give you questions that I was asked in my interview. The only advice I would give is to relax and know that the ALO is there to help you, not hurt you.

- What are USAFA's core values and what do they mean to you?
- What is the honor code? Do you think that it is fair to ask that of 19-23 year olds?
- How do you deal with stress?
- How do you deal with failure?
- What would your friends say your biggest strength is? What about your biggest weakness?
- Why should you get a slot over your peers?
- What is your favorite book? Why?
- Who is a famous military leader you look up to and why do you like them?
- How would you feel about being deployed?
- How do you feel about killing someone?
- What do you want to do in the Air Force? What if you can't do that?

Otherwise we just went through my resume. The ALO asked me to explain my involvement in my activities and then asked follow up questions. My interview lasted about 1 hour and 15 minutes.

All of the above are pretty good!!

What else? Oh, things like...where do you see yourself it 10 years? Then after the candidate responds, that nasty evaluator ALO says something like: "Or perhaps in Arlington?" And then he sits to see the reaction.

What else..." tell me a time you've failed." And then after you answer, he says "so, that's a failure to you? How do you define failure?"

Why you? Why should I tell the other nine candidates I interviewed this month that they should execute their Plan B's, because YOU are the pick. Why you?

Oh, there's more but that'll give you an idea...
