Any truth to the rumor?

Good advice. No one should assume they will excel enough to win a campus scholarship in ROTC. Especially, if the numbers are down.

It is state school all the way for us unless DS wins a 4 yr scholarship. Even with in-state tuition and a prepaid college plan, we will have to take out some modest loans for room and board. But, sacrifice is sometimes necessary to get a college degree.

3-year campus-based AROTC scholarship for my kid.

But once the above was awarded their private school cut the cost of the first year in half, making it competitive with public, in-state schools.

I heard from multiple friends today at different schools, that they heard from their PMS via email that the Army is reducing the number of officers it needs for future mission sets and and there will not be any campus based scholarships for classes after those who are contracting in a few weeks. In the email they let the incoming freshman and juniors know that they could stay in the program for a year, or if they can't afford this school to look at other options. Also added it could be a year, could be more than a year. I haven't heard from my PMS yet, but I did hear from our MSG who has me on snapchat that what my friends at other schools/ battalions are conveying to me is accurate information

Just learned of another military-related tuition discount. Michigan State offers in-state tuition to dependents of honorably discharged veterans.

Students who meet any of the following standards will receive in-state tuition:

A student who, or whose spouse, or parent in the case of a dependent student:
(1) is serving on active duty in the United States Uniformed Services;
(2) is serving in the guard or reserves in one of those reserve components; or
(3) has received an honorable discharge from one of those Services or reserve components.

University of Utah, too!
