Hi! I am just checking to see if anyone has heard from Senator Warner's office in VA about receiving a nomination. I interviewed in Richmond a few weeks ago but have not heard anything. I also heard the Senator Webb might not be granting any interviews. Is there any truth to that?

When I talked to an intern from Senator Webb's office last week she said they wouldn't hold any interviews because of the massive amount of applicants. Not sure if that info is 100% reliable though. Concurrently I would guess Warner's nominating committee either wouldn't interview or would be extremely selective. Last year those who received nominations in VA heard back around January, as the Congressmen are supposed to have their "slates" in by Jan. 31 - http://www.serviceacademyforums.com/showthread.php?t=15264

You could always just call their offices and get the answers directly.

Thanks AKH

When I first heard from Senator Warner's office, they said they had over 600 applicants for the service academies and over 350 were for USNA. they apparently only interviewed 48.

I heard that 600 number too. That's good news if you were one of the 48 who got an interview, congrats!

I had the chance to talk to the academy coordinator while I was waiting for my interviews. She said that although they will finish with USNA interviews in the beginning of November, she will wait for all interviews to be conducted before she takes the recommendations before Senator Warner. We would hear from his office around Christmas, but she did mention communicating with congressional offices. So there is a chance you will get a nomination from your congressional representative, but you will find that out after you get rejected from Senator Warner. They want to try and eliminate double nominations as much as possible. I know there can be some trouble with this depending on if your congressional representative uses the principal nomination system. She seemed very educated on the process though, and I cannot imagine that she would make a decision that would hurt someone's chances at getting an appointment. If this is a concern, then I suggest you talk with your CGO.

On a related note, has anyone received confirmation from Senator Webb's office of your application? I sent it in and got confirmation that it arrived via the post office, but they have not sent anything to confirm. I'm in the same situation with Congressman Periello.

I received a nomination from Webb and Rep. Connolly last year; I heard back from Webb around January and Connolly in December. I don't think Webb normally conducts interviews due to the fact that I think last year he had over 600 applicants, and I'm sure his siutation was similar this year. As for Warner, I only received a letter this year stating that he does not consider applicants who already have nominations, and as I have a presidential nomination I am out of the running. It sounds like you did well just to get an interview! Good luck with the rest of the process.

Christmas Time

Mrs. Carol Ford of Senator Warner's officer said expect work around Christmas time. I called her today around 1600 and she said that she just submitted the nominations. I received mine for the Naval Academy and that the letters are being mailed out now. But the Academy has been notified of the nominations.

Perriello

Congressman Perriello's office has submitted their nominations. I have not heard anything from their office yet, but it showed up on my candidate information page.

Warner

I got a letter yesterday, dated December 16, that said "It is with great pleasure, based on the recommendation of my service academy advisory board, that I am nominating you for an appointment to the United States Naval Academy." However, later on it said, "Your nomination is one of several I am authorized to make this year against a single vacancy at the Academy for entry next summer."

Anyway, I have heard back from Senator Warner's office, but my question is: does this letter, along with a letter of assurance saying I just need a nomination, mean I have an appointment offer?

Thanks

Yes, assuming you're medically qualified and passed your CFA. An LOA with a nomination from any source (+ other requirements) will get you an appointment.
