Hey y'all, I've been working my way through all the form and such and have been looking at the one to apply for the life membership for the AOG. Is it worth it? I would go with the payment option of around $19 per month for all four years if I did so. I was wondering what y'all though of it. Thanks!

I think the AOG is a fantastic organization. They pay for a lot of things that people think are paid by the academy/tax payers. Things like many of the trips that the cadets get to go on during their 4 years. The AOG is the "Alumni Organization" of academy graduates. They definitely deserve your support.

Having said that; a lot of things can change for you in the next couple years. 1) Don't make it through BCT; 2) Realize the Academy isn't for you; 3) Get separated because of academic issues; etc... With that in mind, I usually suggest to cadets, that they wait until commitment. (Start of your 3rd year). The price is the same; you'll be making full pay by then and will be able to pay the whole thing at one time; and you'll be pretty positive by then that you'll be staying in and graduating. It's not that much money, but why support something if you aren't part of it. So; whether you pay the AOG all of it now, in 2 years, monthly payments, etc... they are getting the same amount of money from you. I just suggest you want until the fall of the start of your 3rd year. Just my $0.20484853 (Inflation). Mike....

I have mixed opinions on the AOG. I aggree with CC's idea. Wait until you have some expience and a better idea about your own graduation.

So does turning in the Authorization to Start, Stop or Change an Allotment form on IDay automatically sign you up for the AOG? Or do you just turn in the form then decisions on payments are made later?

i would wait on the AOG as well. I know they say if you leave they'll give you back your money and yada-yada. But if you're leaving, you'll be busy enough without worrying about getting moeny back from the AOG. I waited, and nicely enough recieved membership as a graduation present (great ideas for parents because its not something new LTs will want to buy right now). My father decided to buy in each year, and he's been doing it now for 25 years. Obviously a flat-up-front payment would have been better.

and SD_AcBound, i don't understand your question. Is it an AOG paper asking you to sign up? or what does the paper itself say? without seeing it it's hard to respond.

The AOG thing came with the packet. There's a whole thing about paying for a life membership at graduation, and one of the payment options (one I'd probably choose) is the allotment one where you sign up and they take out around $20 till your firstie year to pay for the membership.
