Does anyone know when the application status in portal changes from incomplete to complete? Currently my DS only has BGO and medical that have not been checked off. There is a "review" link that gives a pop-out of submitted application info and now there is a new "withdraw" link. Anything to be concerned about?

If everything else is checked off, then just let the process take place. Has he scheduled his BGO yet? And has he received a request to begin his DoDMERB paperwork and schedule physical?

Sounds like everything within his control is complete otherwise? His focus should shift to the nominations now.

Once everything is in, and everything checked, then the waiting begins ......

At this relatively early stage, I would say, portal changes are not a concern. Your DS is now just “waiting”. As the admissions year proceeds, there will be innumerable questions on SAF as to “my status”, timelines, and appointments. Try and be as patient as possible. The road ahead is long. Good luck to your son in all his college planning.

Most likely after the BGO submits the BGO interview, the status will change to “Complete Pending Review” and will stay that way until a decision is made. Medical is typically not factored into the above status, unless thing have changed this year. As others have said, your DS is ahead in the timeline and it could be a waiting game until winter/spring 2023. Completing nomination packages, focusing on senior year sports, ECAs, and academics will be the name of the game.

Thanks for the replies. He said he did part of the application out of order and it didn't seem he got the standard expected system responses so think he was concerned. His BGO is on vacation so it will be a few weeks before that takes place and his medical was started through USMA. He said he has already working on his nomination packages so it sounds like everything you all said...just a waiting game.

And once complete, he could be waiting until next spring.....

Definitely know he could be waiting a long time. Plus there are backup plans among backup plans to deal with. Just wanted to make sure what he can control in this particular aspect is taken care of.

The new "withdraw" link caught my DD eye too. She's been waiting over a month for those transcript and SAT checkmarks to make an appearance. A lesson in patience for sure!

The addition of “withdraw” might simply be a way for USNA to make it easier for candidates to indicate their desire not to continue with their application. Many ”candidates“ are put into the system because they filled out a form, attended NASS, etc. Many of those have zero intention of even applying to USNA, let alone completing their application.

In the past, the candidate MIGHT tell the BGO, but USNA needEd to hear it from the candidate. So the BGO would urge, encourage, etc. the candidate to tell USNA. But they actually had to send an email and many just didn’t do it. This makes it really easy.

It really saves a lot of effort for everyone If a candidate who doesn’t want to pursue an application withdraws. That candidate no longer gets unwanted emails from USNA, the BGO doesn’t have to waste time following up, etc.
