Application Submittal Problems

DS finished all aspects and it read 99% (as it should have), but it wouldn't accept the submittal. It came up with an error reading "Too many SOQL queries: 101". He has already reached out to Admissions to solve the problem, but I wanted to see if anybody knew what this was. I haven't read it anywhere else. He tried multiple computers with various operating systems, so it seems to be a problem on the USNA side. Thanks for any input. The marathon continues....

if what you had is a typo and it was really "too many SQL queries" then it's probably a problem on their side in accessing their database. It could possibly be a problem on your side if the application contains unmatched quotes, or double quotes, which may confuse the system.

You didn't mention if you tried different browsers. If you haven't, you should and make sure Microsoft Edge or Explorer is among them.

USNA Admissions is still trouble shooting the new Application platform. DS should send a message describing the issue to his Admissions Counselor. Then be patient...

Thanks for the responses! Error code came straight off the screenshot that DS sent to Admissions email he was given. Sounds like he's on the right track to getting it resolved. We didn't try different windows browsers, but he did try to send in Safari and Chrome.

for any errors like the SQL error you saw, you need to notify admissions. they wont automatically take action if you don't tell them

SOQL: Salesforce Object Query Language ....

From Google —
Resolve the "Too many SOQL queries: 101" error
To fix the issue, change your code so that the number of SOQL fired is less than 100. If you need to change the context, you can use @Future annotation which will run the code asynchronously.

..... How much do I get for fixing it?

Congratulations! I'll mail your certificate. :-)

USNA still hasn't resolved. Would contact to a BGO be helpful? He has chatted with others that have submitted with no problem. He can't get anyone on the phone and no emails for 3 days, even though he has asked for an update.

If you have not sent an email to your Admissions Counselor, you should do so. If you have, be patient... Admissions and USNA is troubleshooting a variety of issues, and is likely addressing them as they come, or looking for trends and trying to correct the more widespread issues first. AGAIN , BE PATIENT -- ADMISSIONS is not judging candidates upon how fast the application is completed.

Please do not contact your BGO - the instruction we have been given is to have the Candidates sent these issues to their Admissions Counselor. If a BGO sends in an inquiry, this is just duplicating the problem and can lead to confusion.

Is it when you push the submit button or just when opening the portal? We had trouble with both, I don't remember which said which error. The portal is finicky about the exact address, click on the one from an email. For the submit button, had to contact admissions and they said several were having the same issue. Then the next day, it worked. We've been disappointed in this "new" portal.

I had the same problem and submitted a screenshot to my admissions counselor, he responded saying he sent an IT ticket regarding the issue and to try again Monday evening

DS is able to logon just fine. When he reviews and submits, the submit gets the error. He sent a screenshot to admissions and it's been a week now. The high of submitting such an important document is being waned by the low of IT issues. He's kept trying to get status updates and working on other pieces of the process.

The marathon continues... Thanks for all the input.

The joys of the military procurement system. The requirements were probably developed in the last two years, budgeting dollars locked in (which are never enough for a shore-based schoolhouse) and then competed per the complex rules of the military procurement system, under a strict process, which does not always ensure the best product is selected and deployed.

This is a dynamic live database system, probably a CRM platform, and they are working out the kinks with an actual incoming class. But hey, it’s 2020, why not?

Area Coordinators were given a demo last week. Overall, it's an improvement over the old system but there are still some bugs being worked out as some of you are seeing.

BGOs are getting login credentials starting today, and will have candidate assignments shortly. before too long you'll be able to contact your BGO and, if you are far enough along in the process, you'll be able to schedule the interview.

as many have advised, be patient, it is still very early in the process. as of last week, the Admissions Board had not yet begun to meet and has not yet reviewed any records. that is being reviewed on a week to week basis.

This brought a smile to my face. Thanks again for the input. It really calms my nerves for him. DS may be a cool cucumber, but I tend to stress about these things. Letting him handle it is probably best for both of us.

The new BGO system is a Salesforce system with appropriate customization for the USNA install.
FWIW, I worked through Salesforce switchovers/incorporations at three different companies so I've lived through
this "fun" before. I'd liken it to a scheduled REFTRA (Refresher Training) back in the days before GITMO officially became
a prison. You never knew how long you'd be there, it wasn't finished based on any schedule, the finish happened when
things finally worked themselves out.

I’ve got the Me Too CRM/Salesforce switchover merit badges, back-to-back at two different companies. Bonus round included a brand-new vendor partner and materials ordering system and a new marketing interface with the CRM. Never were truer words spoken than “A computer program will do exactly as you tell it to do.” Always created unintended consequences.

So DS just called very excited. He decided to look through the application again to see if there was something holding it up. In the essay section, he had put a return to separate the 2 questions from each other, even though the responses went together seamlessly. He removed the return and tried to submit again and (lo and behold), it went through to 100%.
Now, it has been 4 days since he has tried to submit from 99% complete, so USNA may have fixed an error, but he was trying to problem solve the best he could on his end!
Thanks for all the advice above and I have tried to counsel him based on that input so it was very helpful (while also staying out of it).

If you hear of someone having an error, have them try to keep their essay and other input boxes to characters and spaces, and remove any returns within the box.

Not sure if it is the same for everyone, but DS's application seems frozen in time.... No BGO yet, his SAT scores were sent more then 6 weeks ago - not there yet. Also school transcripts and extracurricular validation were sent by the school counselor more then a month ago - not checked off on "My progress" tab. I know it is early and I know they've got a new software system, just want to make sure it is the same for everyone.

my DD still does not have check mark for SAT scores sent in July. Transcript finally was recorded after being mailed first week of august - the extracurricular validation: my DD's counselor still has not received the email to do this. No BGO assigned officially but she already had interview bc the BGO called her. Now she is logged out for some reason bc of password issues - she emailed admissions last Monday still no reply. Lots of waiting around.....
