I'm going to be a senior applying early decision to VMI this year and am nervous as to whether I am a good candidate for the school.

Grades/GPA (weighted)- 3.6 SAT- 1140
I didn't take many honors classes, but a year ahead in math, took 4 years of Spanish, honors/AP history classes.

Sports
I ran 3 years outdoor track (on year of varsity), two years of X Country (one year varsity), and two years of indoor track (on year of varsity).

Extra-currics
I haven't volunteered at all and don't really do any clubs or anything. I played in the orchestra since freshman year.

How are my chances lookin fellas?

Definitely start working on those extracurricular activities and community things. Also, try to raise your SAT scores. Have you considered the ACT?

By the way, sports are good, it would be really great if you were captain though.

dude your fine. I had the same GPA, and a whole lot less ECAs and got in. You'll be solid with a higher SAT though.

i would say

definitely try for JROTC if you can get it, and go ahead and take the ACT. anywhere from 21+ should do it. try to do community service as well, and then consider The Citadel :)

Best of Luck.

TR: Just re-posting a link that I posted on another thread. The profile for the VMI class of 2012 is at the attached link and include these below. This should give you a feel for how you compare to the class that just finished their Rat year. Good luck:thumb:

So most people are saying I should retake the SAT, but I have been told that I can get in comfortably with a 3.6/7 and a 1140. The only problem with retaking it is that i want to apply early decision and the next SAT is October 10. The early decision deadline is November 15. Will the scores be sent by then? Also I will probaby want to go for an army scholorship and have heard you need a score of at least 1250 to have a good shot. Is that right?

Not sure about the answer to the army question, but usually(not always though) your SAT scores arrives with 5 weeks. I took the SAT on the 6th of June and got my scores on the 27th, just three weeks later; so you should be fine with taking it. Besides, if it doesn' arrive on time, you'll still have the other SAT to get in VMI with, since you heard you can get in comfortably with a 1140. So if you take it, it can only help you(unless you get lower scores of course).
