Appointment Notification from MOC

Principal nom, 2q waiting waiver. No appointment yet
So you want them to call you and congratulate you, not knowing if the waiver will be approved?

Is that what you call a conditional appointment?

I would focus on the waiver decision.

Does MOC notify about conditional appointments?
Yes, they do.

My MOC congratulated me on "receiving an appointment from the Air Force Academy," and then later in the email, it stated that I still need medical approval. The next week I was notified by USAFA of my LOA. What is interesting is that USAFA actually says you received an appointment, and that you just need medical approval.

For Navy, USNA reached out to me before my MOC telling me about my LOA. My MOC was not notified of my LOA by the Naval Academy. USAFA notified my MOC though.

Ok, now that you put it that way I understand. Will focus on the waiver decision 🫡

This is the exact wording for a USAFA LOA: Congratulations! On behalf of the Superintendent, Lt Gen Richard M. Clark (USAFA '86), it is my pleasure to announce your appointment to the United States Air Force Academy as a member of the Class of 2028. You will be joining a select group of our nation's finest young people as you take this challenging and rewarding step toward becoming a professional Air Force or Space Force officer. Please note that your appointment will be conditional until we receive confirmation from the Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board that you are medically qualified. You should complete your medical processing as quickly as possible. If you are not medically qualified before 1 May 2024, this offer of appointment may be rescinded.

Versus Navy LOA wording: We are pleased to notify you that the Admissions Board has selected you to attend the United States Naval Academy with the Class of 2028, provided the remaining requirements for admission are completed. You should be proud of your outstanding accomplishments as you have earned an opportunity to join one of the country's premier officer training programs.

for what it’s worth, as discussed in other posts, there seems to be a difference between the LOA and the seemingly USAFA-specific conditional appointment

This is the same for all academies. All academies require 8th-semester transcripts to be good for you to be allowed to continue. Also, the reason they use the language appointed and not accepted is that you have to complete BCT, BEAST, or Plebe summer to be actually considered "accepted." They like using this language to act mysterious.

Really? I didn’t know this.

I thought it was offer of appointment, acceptance of offer, induction.

Once the incoming class takes their oath on the first day, they are officially "accepted" and become active duty military.

Hello Parents- Can you please tell me how your MOC (Member of Congress: Senator or House) notified your son or daughter that they were receiving an APPOINTMENT offer to one of the academies? Was your student surprised by the notification? Any helpful suggestions for announcements to future appointees? Thanks, a congressional staffer :)
My son was not surprised. He had an LOA and nomination. But his waiting was for a colorblind waiver.

Our MOC called him when we were driving back from his medical exam. It was odd, because the MOC was congratulating him as if he was appointed - it was just for the nom.

He found out about appointment when waiver was approved by Supe.

But MOC called him at school - to congratulate him several days later in principal’s office.

MOC will always be special to me for the way it was handled.

When, or if, someone "washes out", as you put it, has no bearing on the fact that they are "accepted" as of the moment they swear their oath. That is the act that transforms the candidate from a potential midshipman or cadet into an actual active duty service member and enrolled student at the academy.

Did you accept the appointment to USAFA?
