Appointment rescinded...

My suspicion is that the reason OP's son' appointment got recinded came down to the reason for the suspension once discovered. If it was for something so insignificant that one might tend to forget it even happened then not acknowledging it on the application might be understood and excused. Most suspensions though are not the variety where the student would forget.

Having gone through the application process with my son a few years ago (for three different academies), I can say that every question and request for information is scrutinized and fully considered by the applicant. My kid didn't have any skeletons in his closet, but we still made certain that all I's were dotted and T's crossed. Our experience with West Point is that they are pretty reasonable with folks.

On the application process, I agree that it is the kids responsibility, but parents are part of the process to some extent. I remember my son putting in calls to USMA, USNA and USAFA admissions offices because of issues he needed assistance with, but because of his school and athletic schedule he couldn't get in touch with them a few times, and he asked that I follow up to explain. The admissions people were very understanding and helpful. I also reviews and offered critique on too many essay answers to count as he wrote and rewrote answers for each academy and MOCs. All part of the deal. I feel for the kids who don't have folks to lean on for that stuff.

OP, I feel for you and your son for sure. I would ask the RC for insight on the reapplication options, and follow the prescription offered. My son was a direct appointment, but I believe that prepschool provides a tremendous advantage for those who go that option. The experience is well worth the year. I am certain my son would have been much higher in his (2020) class had he received a year of prep, instead of starting as a 17 year old with absolutely no military background, and with very average study and time management habits. He is doing just fine; but just fine in the bottom half of his class. Lol. This could end up as a blessing. Good luck.
