Are TWE's not a thing anymore?

DS was turned down in the portal. I would think that a TWE email would have come as well. Does that not happen anymore, or will this come later?

I didn’t get any formal letter for both my rejections

But I would think you get an email, correct? With all of the issues with the portal, I would think you would get some sort of formal notification from Annapolis, or am I thinking too logically?

I got a TWE email this year from USNA, but the actual thin white envelope in the mail does not exist anymore.

I did get emails, I think they were after the portal update though

I never received an email with my appointment. My portal just updated after having received a conditional LOA in November of the previous year (class of 27)

Did you happen to see what occurred last week? And for that matter, you can't get at least an email saying thanks for applying, but we can't offer you a spot for the Class of 2028?
A glitch, or human error, in one instance, which we don’t know how many were affected and appears to have been immediately corrected - doesn’t change the formal notification through the portal.

I believe we have seen in the past where someone got a twe that was reversed to offer of appointment after the fact.

I do agree there should be a follow up email or letter after they are done filling the class.

I believe a candidate that wants to reapply should contact admissions and find out what should be improved for the next application.

My DS received a TWE last year (waitlisted for NAPS, TD first week in June). Last night, he told me he received an email …. I didn’t pry on the content .. his words, “I didn’t get in”.

Sorry to hear about the TWE...was pulling for you! I've seen quite a few posts on here of portal updates with an email following a day or two later. Could be wrong but would guess there would be an email letter (probably broad form type) sent out within next day or so. Best of luck with his Plan B!

No email sent for TWE. I noticed last night that there were decisions being made and had my DD log on to check.

A year ago, when my DD got an appointment to NAPS there never was an email sent after clicking the Accept button. About 2 weeks later the nice Appointment Letter and faux leather binder came in the mail.

Oh. Shoot. So sorry. You've been very helpful on this forum. Wishing DS best of luck. Can you reminde of stats? Thought he was a very strong candidate. My son is a junior and these turn downs are a wake up call

To be honest, I don't know if stats really matter. I have seen candidates with out of this world credentials and multiple noms get canned, and I have seen candidates on the opposite side of the spectrum get direct entry, NAPS or foundation. The local kid that received his appointment was quite frankly a surprise when compared to the others that were on the slate (not slighting him, just an honest observation). It's interesting because you have probably seen that many turn downs accept other SA appointments. It's really tough to get a bead on what Annapolis is really looking for.

MY DS received a turndown email soon after portal update.

We don't see the whole picture, USNA Admissions does. We cannot see all applicants, their strengths, weaknesses, unique attributes, interview notes, personal statements, challenges/hardships, BGO write-ups, or teacher evaluations.

We might see a few kids in our area, and have a broad knowledge of their stats (maybe), but we cannot see the likely approx. 7-10k-plus candidates who may have completed their application and are being reviewed and racked and stacked by Admissions.

Admissions is tasked with forming a massive 'puzzle' class of future officers who run the gamut of personalities, skills, backgrounds, demographics, academics, physical ability, and leadership potential.

They are not tasked with finding only those with a perfect SAT/ACT. Or only those who max the CFA. There are so many tangible things they see, that we cannot from the outside looking in.

Of course, there are incredible young men and women each year who get the dreaded turndown. There simply are not enough seats at the USNA table. Congress would have to change that to increase class size, and that isn't likely to happen anytime soon.

Parents aren't wrong to think their kids are rock stars, they likely are. And I know I've been guilty of thinking my kid's resume was unbeatable. Then I met his roommate. But, resumes aside, there are things we just can't know or see in terms of the entirety of the admission process.

I don't disagree, my only complaint is that my DS (who didn't have a nomination) should have been turned down earlier. It was an unnecessary 75 day wait when he didn't have a chance. I know people on here will comment about how he was in the running for something blah, blah but frankly I don't believe that. If a kid doesn't have a chance, then cut bait and let them move on. It makes you feel small to know they you were just hanging around thinking you had a shot, when you weren't even in the game.

I think your DS portal is formal enough. You may get a TWE later on
