Here's what I do while waiting for an appointment, lab, pharmacy, and coffee at Walter Reed.Lots to learn from this:
-nothing is done in private anymore.
-as MIDS (cadets, etc) eyes are always on you when in public.
-intentions aren’t always conveyed properly
-don’t call attention to yourself (IMO) on national TV.
We don’t get re-do’s in life! Look how easily something can blow up.
I people watch and make and read great posts on SA forums dot com.
Here's a sample of who I've seen in the hospital throughout the years:
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs and his entourage. The general had three cats and dogs with him, one of whom was carrying a big satchel which looked very similar to the president's nuclear football. The other two and the general were on their phones. Nobody else seemed to notice or care that they were there.
John Glenn. Yes, THEE John Glenn. Twice. Years ago when the hospital was still National Naval Medical Center, my daughter and I were in the Ortho waiting area for her appointment. The clinic was next to the half circle driveway next to the parking garage. Senator (ret.) Glenn got out of a car and an HM2 greeted him and they walked right in front of us. I told my daughter, "That's John Glenn." She went back to reading Harry Potter. A few weeks later she and I are in the same spot and I know it's hard to believe, but the same thing happened. I was shocked and awe struck and speechless and later wish I had thought to say something like, God Speed John Glenn.
Naval Academy Midshipmen. They are there every time I am. I watch people watching people sometimes and I notice that lots of people watch the midshipmen. I do too. From afar I check them for uniform discrepancies and wonder where they might be from and if they are the kids of any of the members of this forum. They always present themselves as a bunch of sharp, good looking, fit, and bright individuals.
Next time I'm up there I'll look for a Midshipman to flash me the sign and I'll give it right back and say, yep you're OK too. Hopefully though, we don't show up on TV.
