Hopefully I will be attending West Point next year. I've been interested in getting a tattoo on my arm for a long time now. Recently, someone I know was telling me that there is a new regulation in the Army where you can't have any tattoos at all. I had previously thought that it just couldn't be showing while in pt clothes. Can anyone offer me some help?

I don't think the tattoo would violate any Army regs since it isn't offensive, racist, gang related etc. The policy could be changed so I would try and it get one not visible in uniform if at all possible.

However, from a personal stand point I have seen that tattoo sooooo many times. It isn't really unique or anything and I have always thought of tattoos as having a personal flair or touch. This is just me rambling though, do what you want.

Tattoos will not be visible above the neck line when the IPFU is worn. Tattoos will not extend below the wrist line and not on the hands. Sleeve tattoos will be prohibited (this one will be grandfathered).

Also note that you can get as many tattoos as you'd like when you get out. If you ever decide on joining SF, you may not be able to go on certain missions with identifiable tattoos.

I recommend waiting to make a decision about a tattoo after you have gotten out of the Army. I have never met anyone who regretted NOT getting a tattoo.

My adviice - NO TATOOS. As far as the Army is concerned there is NO UPSIDE but many down sides for an officer.

In my military club on campus we have recruiters from all the branches and they all say they exact same thing about tattoos. Wait until you are in the military to get a tattoo. Just put it off until you sign a contract and are officially in the Army. Then you can run out and get it.

Thanks everybody... Ill put off this decision for a few more years
