Army ROTC 2023-2024 3rd Board

My DS just got an email from Army Cadet Command that he was upgraded to a 4 year and it saiid that no response required unless he wants to change school and upgraded letter attached in the email, but portal doesn't reflect upgrade yet. Wow.. I never thought it would be really happened.
 
Well, no email here. I won't lie; I'm feeling a bit deflated. BUT, we certainly feel very grateful for the 3-year scholarship and know there are many who would love to be in DS's shoes.

To those of you who got the BIG BONUS today, again congratulations. That's a really terrific surprise, and I am sure it was well deserved all around. I am genuinely happy for you. :)

I with you, deflated but thankful.
 
Our son was reached out to last Friday from his #1 school choice that he was being upgraded but got th confirmation finally updated on his portal to a 4 year scholarship! Now to begin the transfer process to Vanderbilt where his #1 pick is but wasn't listed on his original 3 year scholarship school options!

Did your son already accept his 3 year to #1 school. I only ask because my son was on 2nd board and had already accepted to Ole Miss. HIs 3 year letter said TCU, Ole Miss and Baylor. The upgrade just says Ole Miss....the school he selected. The email also included the line below. Pretty sure you can still transfer it but I would make sure to confirm with ROO that trasnfer won't effect anything


Please know that if you are in the process of transferring your scholarship or intend to transfer your scholarship to a different school, this upgrade to 4-year scholarship will be reevaluated.
 
DD also just got the upgrade notice. While her top schools were either already upgrading her totally or covering a portion of the first year, having it done officially is just so much easier. Congrats to all who received 3 or 4 year scholarships!

Looking at the stats of the 3 year winners I think there were quite a candidates that were very very similar statistically. I was prepared to be in the same situation...graciously deflated.
It is quite a process to go through. So is their first 2 years as a cadet. This forums is a very valuable resource. I know have 2 four year winners as sons. Not sure I would have been so well prepared to help my sons without this great group of contributors. I never served. I watched my sons battalion commissioning ceremony last year on a ship in San Diego harbor. It was moving and I can tell you I think the world of my sons coming out of HS but ROTC has already made an impact on my older son in a positive way. I am excited for the next 4 years for all these incoming cadets and the world of possibilities before them. I'll toast them and their parents all good luck tonight!
