Army ROTC Scholarship is out!

My DS is still waiting to hear from his first choice school (and #1 listed school on the scholarship), and is not scheduled to hear until 3/22. That will be tight to make the 30-day notification. Should he contact admissions and or ROO at that school to check in?

I completely agree with @Jcleppe.

Designate the school that is your #1 choice when you get the paperwork in the mail even if you don’t have the admissions decision yet.

If you do not get accepted to that school or change your mind later, then you can transfer the scholarship.

I would then let the ROO know that you designated the scholarship for his/her school. Depending on the school, the AROTC dept may have some influence in the admissions process. You never know.

My DD got the scholarship in October well before any of her schools came out with decisions. She picked one school, let the ROO know (he wasn’t as embracing as I thought he would be) that she designated the scholarship for his school, and waited for the EA decision to come out in mid-December. Fortunately, she got into the school.

Has anyone here been boarded/under consideration since the first board results? Just wondering if I'm the only one haha.

I won’t have the financial means to do ROTC even non-scholarship unless I get one.
Enlist. Get 100% TA. Go SA, or ROTC after 2-3 years of school. Or finish your degree while enlisted and go OCS or WOCS. You have tons of options if service is your goal

If anyone has the time, consider posting results on the megathread to assist with future applicants so that they can better idea about what to expect.

DD is in the same boat. So you are not alone.
Yes, DS still is. While he wanted, and thought, he would get an offer this board he is currently finalizing his PFT for the NROTC MO with the Major and Captain as we speak. If the MO drops for him he will go that route most likely.

Would taking and maxing a full 2-2-2 APFT increase my chances of receiving a scholarship on the 3rd board?

Congrats everyone!! I got a 4 year!!! And 4 year air force ROTC and Offer of Appointment to the USNA last Oct, 2018

Wow, they give certificates now?

Both my son's just got the packet with instructions to "Sign Here"

Ok. I just looked at DD’s paperwork from October.

Yes. The certificate is in a nice folder similar to what the USMA does. On the left side is a black and white pic of HQ, Cadet Command

The memo she had to sign and return gave her an option to accept or decline the scholarship and also to select the school to designate. She got a list of 3 schools.

The memo was dated 25 October and she had until 24 November to get the signed paperwork back to CC. I had to sign it too as a parent.

Remember to accept or decline ASAP so others can get what you turn down.
You really gotta stop with this. If people are earning these scholarships the boards see something special in them, and this is a LIFE CHANGING decision, personally I will likely use up until the last week and other people deserve to take as much time as they need. If you earned the scholarship you earned it, you only get a chance like this once in a lifetime so take your time people, best of luck.

No. If you got a 4 year Air Force, an academy appointment, and a 4 year Army, you can definitely afford to give up your least favorable ASAP. I would have pulled my ROTC applications immediately if I found out I got an appointment in October. These are coveted scholarships, and if you applied for these opportunities, get them, yet can’t make up your mind fast on which one to take thereby taking the opportunity for others, you should be ashamed. You shouldn’t apply for these scholarships if you haven’t thought out a pre determined your ideal option.

I think ashamed is a strong word. Every applicant has an equal shot at the scholarship.

I'd say if you won all those scholarships, appointments, etc. then they definitely deserve it. Having a Plan B, C, and D isn't a bad thing to have because who knows what can happen between now and summer. Shaming people for their accomplishments shouldn't be the way a future officer should be.

Not shaming for the accomplishments, I’m shaming for being indecisive with time sensitive, highly sought after awards that others are striving for.

I understand your frustrations in not receiving a scholarship. Truly, I do. There is caution to your statements- "you can definitely afford to give up your least favorable ASAP," and "you shouldn't apply for these scholarships if you haven't thought out and predetermined your ideal option."

While financially, a winner of Air Force and Army scholarships, as well as a USNA appointee could afford it. This is a life changing decision of what to choose. As for predetermining your "ideal" option, why would you not give yourself the opportunity to apply to as many things you are eligible for and are willing to serve in? I know many people at my school who have switched from Navy to Army, or Army to Navy, or even from Navy to Army and then Air Force ROTC. I'm not saying this is the best thing to do, but the motives behind switching aren't wrong. Serve in the branch that seems to suit you best, and that is hard considering none of us in ROTC have been in the ACTUAL military.

Like what was mentioned, and has been mentioned in prior threads, whoever wins a scholarship or an appointment deserves that scholarship or appointment. Whatever that winner decides to do with his/her scholarship or appointment is up to them within the time frame they are given.

There is also a point to be made about not receiving a scholarship/appointment. Obviously, everyone that applies for anything in life knows there has to be someone that receives, and someone that does not. Always be prepared to be on the non-receiving end and to not put all of your eggs in one basket (not just mentioning you specifically, just in general).

Life moves on. Things happen. Those who truly want to serve will always have the opportunity to do so. It just takes effort to see different avenues sometimes.

What I meant by predetermining was that yes, you should apply to as many options as possible, however, know what your top choice(s) is/are beforehand so in a case like this where you win everything you applied to, you can free up spots for other people.

That is understood, but no matter how late he/she chooses which branch he/she wants, the funds will still go to a ROTC detachment for cadets already in ROTC.
