Army ROTC Scholarship is out!

No for DS this time also : ( It's a long wait when you have your paperwork in before the first board! What happens to all the winning offers that people do not select because they got in a different branch ROTC
or MA?

Sadly I did not get a scholarship from this board. I feel like I did something wrong on the survey or interview that is keeping me back because I have done well academically and physically. Just have to wait and see if I get one from the next board.
Congrats to all that recieved one!

Cadet Command has a mission set for the number of scholarship they offer. They will look at the number of scholarships that have been accepted from the first two boards and then complete that mission set on the third board.

Keep in mind that those that receive appointments from an Academy often accept the scholarship offers and hold them until they either make a decision whether to attend the Academy or until they are about to report. Some will accept all scholarship offers from different services while they wait to see which school they are accepted to or they decide which ROTC program to attend. They may hold these scholarships past the final board, if they end up declining them after the final board has met and offered scholarships, the ones they decline will just go back to cadet command, some of these may make their way to the battalions so they can offer campus scholarships at a later date.

I was informed that I received a 4 year Navy Scholarship Wednesday and 4 year Army today, what a week! Now I just need to get accepted into my schools...

You will have 30 days to accept or decline the AROTC Scholarship, if your not sure which to accept or you're still waiting to see what schools you are accepted to you are allowed to accept both scholarships. Once you make up your mind where to go you would then decline the one you don't use.
Sounds like a plan, I'll do that and then decide. Parents still pushing against Army though, said they wouldn't give me any money for college if I did Army ROTC

I didn’t win, and I literally had to throw up in class after I saw with all my nervousness crashing down. This is extremely frustrating, I will persist. It’s doesn’t look good, as I don’t consider myself very competitive. Theyll be a bunch of last minute applicants with better scores who will jump me in the OML on the next board, so I’ll have to be looking more towards plan B
Plenty of people get scholarships while in Rotc. You can get anywhere from 3 - 3.5 years of money.

My DD did not receive a scholarship this round according to portal. She just got a call from her #2 school that she has been awarded a 4 year army rotc nursing scholarship. Is it possible portal could be incorrect? She got off the phone before asking if it was a campus based scholarship or not, but when she told him I thought I was passed over to next board, he said,”Nope, you are wrong. You have won a 4 year.” Any thoughts?

I’d go with what the ROO said, technology can be finicky. Here’s hoping I get a call like that, as, it says I'm not a winner in the portal.

Personally, I'd have my DD continue to refresh the portal. Some of these government systems of "glitchy." Maybe it didn't update yet.

An unlikely situation to occur but feel blessed! I hope it works out for you guys.

I would tell your daughter to call the person back and ask them what kind of confirmation can they give. This may have something to do with the fact that it is a Nursing Scholarship.

You will get a BFE in the mail. It'll have a certificate in a plastic cover.

Wow, they give certificates now?

Both my son's just got the packet with instructions to "Sign Here"

Gosh. My memory is foggy. It's been since Oct.

I do recall a plastic folder type thing with a certificate in it. The certificate was on light yellowish paper.

I have read here previously that money stays in the budget and get allocated out to the various on campus AROTC programs. Your DS will have the ability to compete for an AROTC scholarship on Post at VMI. Sometimes they are able to award as early as second semester freshman year. I have read it depends on the money available along with other factors I'm sure. Others with better knowledge will correct me where I have erred.

+1 to @GoCubbies . . . in times past, some folks had to completely shutdown their computer and restart in order to properly clear the cache! Upon restart they found they had indeed been awarded a scholarship. Not sure if the problem was on the AROTC end or their own computer, and it may be that this glitch has been fixed, but if you did not receive a portal update showing you had been awarded a scholarship, please try it.

For those that did not get a scholarship, it's painful and gut wrenching to have to wait for the next Board. No other way to describe it. As a parent, its a tough situation, we all want the best for our kids. DS did not get offered anything at the first board but got a 3-year this time. I would suggest that you take the advice of the more experienced people and ROs that post on this board and try to increase your chances. Keep trying !!!!

How do we accept? What are the next steps in general? I know we have to qualify for DODMERB etc. but how do I schedule such a screening?

In the packet will be a couple forms. One of the forums has the list of 3-4 schools that Cadet Command will give you an option. You indicate which school you will designate the scholarship and sign the form accepting it. I think I had to sign it too because my DD is only 17 years old.

You can snail mail the form back or upload into your portal.

I think my DD had 2 weeks to decide which school she will designate the scholarship and return the form.

My DS is still waiting to hear from his first choice school (and #1 listed school on the scholarship), and is not scheduled to hear until 3/22. That will be tight to make the 30-day notification. Should he contact admissions and or ROO at that school to check in?

3/22 will be long past the 30 day window to accept the scholarship, if he has not heard anything by the deadline he can still accept the scholarship to that #1 school, if he is not accepted there is a process to apply to transfer the scholarship to a school he has been accepted to. It would be a good idea to contact the ROO and let them know that he has not yet been accepted to the school, it doesn't hurt to contact admissions and let them know he received the scholarship. The Army pays the rack rate for school so that may have some impact, doesn't always factor in but it is worth the effort.

DS was told once you are boarded you can only improve your chances with an improve PFT or test scores. No letters of recommendations, etc.
