So yea, it's kinda interesting seeing your "AROTC Board Ready anyone?" thread blow up with reply's soon after the scholarship results came back, with people excited about how they got the scholarship and the one person who created that thread, unfortunately recieved the notifaction of under consideration haha. However if anyone like myself received the same unfortunate reply, DO NOT LOOSE HOPE! Here is how I think the scholarship results work, so say your placed #350 on the OML list right? And the first board states they want #'s 1-300 to get the first round of scholarships, those people are then awarded. That means your number dropped from 350 to 50, so when the second board meets and they say they want #'s 1-500 on the list, then hooray you won a scholarship. At least this is how I think the process works. Please feel free to clarify.

You are right that you are placed on the OML but with the next board comes a new round of new applicants that may not have gotten their applications in time for first board therefore if you were placed on the OML you could very well get moved down on the list again if other applicants are more competitive. At least that’s how I have been told by others it works. I would just keep working a plan B and C if a scholarship doesn’t come through in the 2nd and 3rd round.

It does not work that way at all.

Tenley71 is correct. One of the reasons the first board does not give out the same number as the next two boards is in part because a large number of applicants don't get their applications in for the first board. The second board probably has the largest number off applicant submissions. So this means a new OML that will include all the new applicants. This is one reason not to be too discouraged if you are not selected on the second board, the third board does not have the same number of new applicants.

DS is bummed did not get 1st board winner selection. Got emails from a few ROO's and PMS about not getting selected from his schools. Was told he was very competitive and not to lose hope. While he has a back-up plan (NROTC-MO) and is ready for the first board his primary branch is the Army. May be even better for him to wait to see what Colleges he gets accepted to. Sent SAT scores last weekend and will be sending his Early Action applications this weekend. Already submitted and was accepted to UNR last week for Geological Engineering.

DD did not receive offer from 1st board but did receive an ECP offer but does not want to accept it. She can still compete at the other boards if she declines, correct?

Did you hear from email or portal about ECP? Because I actually applied for it

Tenley71,
Here is a quote from an ROO that posts on this forum from last year regarding the ECP Scholarship offers. Not sure if this is the case for this year, I do remember at least one person that posted their son received the ECP off, declined it and was offered a 3 year scholarship later, just not sure if that was a campus scholarship. It is always good to have a Plan B when going through this process.

Those offered a 2YR Ike Skelton are not projected to be high enough on the OML to get a 3 or 4YR scholarship. Cadet Command is offering the 2YR scholarships to those that are projected to just fall short of the 3YR scholarship cut line in order to increase the quality of cadets at the JMCs. If you have a strong desire to serve on active duty, then you should decline the Ike Skelton and work to earn a campus based scholarship. Only a small percentage of the 2YR winners are able to get onto active duty.

Is this always the case or just this years board because several JROTC cadets at my DD’s school over the past few years have been offered the 2 year and declined and walked away with 3 yr scholarships at second or third board. My DD has been accepted to two of her top schools and has been in contact throughout the fall with the ROOs from both schools.

It is definitely not always the case. some from this board last year received the ECP offer after the first board, they declined and were offered a 3 year scholarship on one of the last two boards.

Don’t distress if you were not awarded on the first board. My DS got nothing first board, then 3 year award on 2nd board, then upgraded to 4 year on the 3rd board. I got to watch him board a Chinook yesterday for his first FTX.

Patience will get you there - you’ve done the hard part already. Good luck to all.

I was given a status of Boarded/Under Consideration on Thursday evening. Then I did received an APPOINTMENT to the UNITED STATES NAVAL ACADEMY on Friday afternoon!!
