AROTC 1st Board

From what I found there’s the possibility for the second board but it’s slim. Most, if not all 4 years are received on the first board.
I’m pretty sure every scholarship awarded in the first board in a 4-year. The second board awards 4-year scholarships also. I’m not sure how it will change with the extended deadline though.

Good to know!
I hope they are trying to make up for the delayed board by making the process faster! Looks like we may be hearing this week... at least I hope so! But it’s the military so who knows 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

Ok, while everyone's on the subject... I got an email from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (1 of my 4 school choices) and in the subject line it read "Scholarship Notification" of course, I thought I was about to have 4 years of College fully paid for...

Just some freakin' Provost scholarship. Darn near gave me a heart attack

Would it be wrong of me to contact my top ROTC schools tomorrow and ask about the board? I'm really anxious and just want to know if I got 1st board (I'm still B/UC)

Nah, I wouldn't push your luck. Trust me, we're ALL anxious. Especially those of us (myself included) still under consideration.

You'll find out soon enough 😁

+1 to GoCubbies. Attrition rates in ROTC programs can be very high. DS' NROTC unit started with 45 freshman but only 15 commissioned. There are all kinds of reasons kids drop out or are forced out. My favorite is the midshipman who took a swing at a Sgt at USMC OCS. How did he think that would work out for him?
Kinnem are these huge drop out numbers scholarship students? My son is very serious about NROTC MO and serving as a Marine Officer. Maybe my son will win a scholarship or get in our state’s elite school with NROTC MO. When talking with a MO cadet it didn’t seem that hard to earn a MO scholarship once in ROTC?

For those of you who don’t move to “winner” after the first board, don’t lose hope. I know from experience how disappointing it is not to see “winner” and having to wait for the 2nd and 3rd board after you have put so much effort and anticipation into this. Just have a Plan B in place, and enjoy your senior year. There are still a lot more scholarships to be given out and the first board is the most competitive.

Not exactly. The first board awards ONLY 4 year scholarships. 2nd board is a mix of 4 and 3 year, and the 3rd board is kinda just the leftovers.

But a good friend of mine DID receive a 4 year scholarship on the 3rd board 🤷🏻‍♂️
My older son went through the process 2 years ago. He missed the first board, was boarded for the second and won a 3 year in the last board. Remember that there are still kids who win 4 year scholarships that are waiting to hear from the Service Academies or other ROTC branches, which some don't find out until as late as May. Those that choose the service academies will then decline their 4 year ROTC and those that won 3 year scholarships starting at the top of the OML will then be converted to 4 year scholarships. My son wound up choosing USMAPS and declined his 3 year ROTC which I assume was then awarded to someone else.

I am still at B/UC. I must admit I am confused. It would seem that once at UC you would then go to winner or not awarded. If it goes back to Boarded does that mean you've been placed on the OML for the next board? Does it mean that you weren't awarded at this board?

Yes, if you are boarded for the 1st round, you did not receive a scholarship this round. You will be looked at again at the next round.
