AROTC 3rd Board

My DD status shows "boarded", I believe during the second board it was "boarded/under consideration". What does everyone else show for status? She applied for the 2nd board, but did not receive a scholarship.
When I was on the board if you were boarded/under consideration and then moved to boarded during the next board it was an indication that you probably would be receiving a scholarship. But do not quote me, that's just how it worked that year.

That's looks like how it's turning out right now!

Hello! I'm a bit new to this forum but figured that I'd post a few questions here. My question is similar to jrnolen's. :)
I received a 3 year AROTC scholarship and plan on requesting a transfer to a different school. Would my chances of transferring increase if I put in the request as soon as possible?
You will only find out if your transfer is approved if you follow the instructions, accept the scholarship, and put in the school change request. My older son (MS2) put in two different school change requests before he landed at his current school. My younger son is currently in the same situation and we have already uploaded his ROTC scholarship intent and acknowledgement letter, school change request, and acceptance letter last night. Now just waiting for approval from cadet command to transfer his scholarship to the school he was accepted to.

What makes you say this? Does majoring in computer science increase the chance of getting a scholarship?
Sorry....should have been more clear.

I meant a "ROTC Programmer."

That's somebody that joins the ROTC program in college, without a scholarship. After a student does this, they can job it...hard...and try to compete for a campus-based scholarship.

Any student is free to give ROTC a shot, and see if it's a good fit for them...and get an extra semester hour or two, while they're at it.

Thank you for the advice and information on your son's experience. I didn't know that it might take a few transfer requests for one to be approved, so I'll be sure to submit mine as soon as possible. I wish the best of luck to your youngest!

To clarify.. each of his school change requests were approved. Example: 1st board 4 yr Scholarship approved for school A (not accepted to school A), transferred to school B (accepted at state school), transferred to school C (came off the waitlist at a private out of state school).

UPDATE! My DS got an Ike Skelton which we are taking a good look at. Any opinions on schools? He was offered Valley Forge MC, New Mexico Military Institute, Marion Military Institute, and Georgia MC.
Congratulations. They will all send him emails and most will host virtual meetings to "pitch" their institution which is 1st Brigade: https://www.cadetcommand.army.mil/brigades.aspx

Strongly suggest you both attend and listen and ask questions.

The programs are known as "mini–West Points" and consolidate intense training in 2 years. They usually do well as 19-year-old advance camp Cadets due to the great training he will receive. From there he can transfer to most any University his last 2 years and the Army pays $40k to the university he transfers to.

Ah, my mistake. That makes sense; thank you for the clarification. :)

Are 4 year upgrades possible to get in 3rd round?
If you were awarded a scholarship in the 3rd round I'm guessing it's unlikely to get upgraded to a 4 year. You would have just been awarded the 4 year. Of course, if more people don't accept than they expect I suppose it's possible. Just my speculation, not particularly informed. But it does seem possible if you got a 3 year in the prior rounds to get upgraded (at least that's the rumor!).

I asked this question to Cadet Command and their exact response was "Very few scholarships get upgraded to a 4-year from a 3-year" and that the "higher-scored applicants are awarded this upgrade after the 3rd board'. He made it seem like it basically doesn't happen, and is mainly for the top 5-10 3-year winners. Hope this helps.

I believe last year they upgraded about 250 3-year scholarships. I'm not sure if that was an anomaly. I know Mohawk ROTC has said that they are giving 1000 4 yr and 1000 3 yr, which is what they did last year and was a change from previous years. What will actually happen, who knows?
