AROTC 3rd Board

Same for my DS with top three schools. Now the agony of which school to choose. Already been accepted at all three.
Time for the Pros and Cons board.
DS choose his school based on receiving a golf scholarship along with the 3AD.
If no golf he was going to a well known Battalion in VA. Varsity sport gives you more Merits points (so I was told).

His school isn't a host school, so he has to drive every Tuesday. We were told during decision day last year a MS1 Professor would be campus if there was enough MS1s. There is enough, but that's a different story (it's his battle to fight).
He doesn't get to participate in a lot of the ROTC activities since the host battalion is 45 minutes away.

He gets volunteer ops at his school or the surrounding JROTC schools.

Driving able to drive freshman was a good selling point. If permitted look at where the dorms reside compared to the parking lot. DS dorm to the back lot is about 1 1/2 miles. There is a bus shuttle, but the things they don't tell you. How far away is the PT fields.

What kind of athletic facilities .

Things to think about for DS.

For anyone who is considering TAMU and is a 3-year AROTC award designee, our DS learned the following:
"We are still negotiating with the university on granting in-state tuition for the first year." This is potentially good news!
Good luck with everyone's school decision! Go Army!

Will red green color blindness disqualify my DS on DodMERB for going to JMC on an Ike Skelton scholarship?

I believe last year they upgraded about 250 3-year scholarships. I'm not sure if that was an anomaly. I know Mohawk ROTC has said that they are giving 1000 4 yr and 1000 3 yr, which is what they did last year and was a change from previous years. What will actually happen, who knows?
I would love if someone in the know could update on the overall stats for the AROTC scholarships for 2022. Guess it's time to give up stalking this board to see if anyone has been notified of an upgrade.

DS found out yesterday he was awarded the 3 year. Instructions talk about accepting the offer but I don't see where to do that. Is it in the actual "letter" we get. We haven't received an official letter or email. The only way we knew was the portal and other emails from ROTC programs with congratulations.

Go to the File Uploads tab. Your acceptance letter with instructions should be in there. Do not wait for the letter by mail as it may come after the acceptance deadline date.

I believe the high number of upgrades last year was an anomaly from previous years. Last year, taking the SAT/ACT was still an issue for some applicants, but I don't know if that contributed to the anomaly or not. No idea what will happen this year.

From @Jer26's post:

@MohawkArmyROTC said "After the national board, some schools are given 3YR scholarships to offer to incoming freshmen"

Does anyone know which schools get these extra scholarships and/or when they give them to freshmen?

When will we know when they are done releasing results? Will my son's status change from Boarded to something else if he is not picked?

They have released all the winners now? I didn't release it was completely done?
They have released all the winners as the March board was the final board. I've never heard of anyone awarded after this point. I would encourage your son to look into his choice schools and join them to work his way up to a campus scholarship. I've heard stories about people asking about joining an ROTC and get offered a campus scholarship with them joining the school. I heard that's very rare though, but good luck to you and your son and godspeed to whatever he does in the future!

Good luck getting that information. For reasons I've never understood, none of the services is particularly good about putting this information out in comprehensive, useful fashion on a regular basis. They are pretty good at touting their comparable Service Academy numbers, but not so much for national ROTC scholarship winners.

I saw it posted in this forum for last year, but it was just the kindness of a PMS who had the information and shared it here. So just being hopeful/wishful.

Does anyone have insight on the reasoning behind which schools that applicants are are awarded a scholarship to? I imagine that it depends largely on the size of available spots in the school’s ROTC program and a school’s ranking on the applicant’s preference list, but is it typically done by a first-come first-serve basis?
