Has anyone heard about Basic Camp for Summer 2017?
Wondering if Class of 2020 MS1s will be sent.
My son heard that the camp was being shortened to allow more Cadets to attend.

Camp is 1 month. 9 sessions available. 1's are not required to attend. However, they may volunteer.

My son is going to the first session May 31-June 26. Don't know any other dates.

My DD (also Charlie at UNG) received notice (last week) she has been selected to attend CIET this summer, but no dates yet. Just curious, how long after notification of attendance did your DS receive his dates?

The regiment dates for Basic Camp are published, however cadets are not typically slotted until around MAR. MS1s are not required to attend, but they may volunteer to go. The priority for Basic Camp are those that need Basic Course credit in order to become an MS3 cadet.

Well, now I don't know! I guess he just signed up for that slot, I didn't realize it wasn't guaranteed. I'll be speaking with him soon and will ask more questions. Pretty neat to find you here, two UNG Charlie Company Moms!

Thanks for the info. My cadet is contracted, so I believe that gives him the opportunity to go already his first summer. Definitely makes sense that older cadets would need to get in first.

My son is in Alpha Company at UNG - 2nd semester on a 4 yr scholarship and is already contracted. He found out today he will be attending camp 5 June - 6 July.

Can you provide a link to the dates, please? I contacted Cadet Command on Facebook and the response was that the dates are not yet available, but that was a couple weeks ago.

@MohawkArmyROTC

Do you know how they divvy up the slots for Basic Camp? (AKA CIET). Does each battalion get a percentage of their number of cadets? Or is it based on the number of MS-II's that need "catching up?"

The slots are managed by each BDE. First priority goes to those that need Basic Course credit, then the rest are given to those who want to go. In my experience, we have always been able to send all of those who want to go.

Thank you for this chart. I have another new AROTC mon question, if you don't mind. I know my son is in the 5th Brigade, but I don't know his regiment. How do I find that? He is a contracted MSI with the University of Wyoming Cowboy Battalion.

DS has only told me that he had to pick last slot for any specialty schools if he was selected because he would be going to Basic Camp early. He didn't know date supposedly but they may have more info now since they had a really long lab at Ft Rutger today. I have to play ten thousand question to find out anything lol.

I belive reference in the CIET thread to regiments for AROTC refer to the the 9 CIET sessions; and sessions for advanced camp CLC. They have no correlation to the 8 brigades (and their battalions). When DS went to CIET his regiment had cadets from multiple brigades.

Note to those who have cadets planning for CIET, DS orders for CIET went through about 4-6 variations and changes: going early, no go; going later; back to earlier; no go; go. Told him get used the military way; be flexible until your feet touch ground where you are supposed to be (or not.) Search the forum for some good suggestions on those who went as to packing and what to possibly expect.

Cadet Command is comprised of eight brigades, each responsible for a geographical and/or functional area. 1st Brigade Cadet Command's 1st Brigade, headquartered at Fort Knox, Kentucky, is responsible for Army ROTC battalions at military colleges. The brigade is also responsible for planning and carrying out Cadet Summer Training which includes Advance Camp (CLC) and Basic Camp (CIET).

Brigades[edit]

ROTC is composed of eight brigades which command 273 ROTC units, referred to as battalions (though these units are typically much smaller than regular army battalions.) The brigades command ROTC units throughout different regions of the country.

Much like when we were waiting to see if they were being offered Scholarships; having several plans are important. Not even planning anything for the Summer since have no idea if he will get to come home or if he will need to go from school to camp/s. So here is a question if he would have a week between camps/training with second that ends the day before move-in; could he fly from school for first camp with return to home address then fly to second camp from home and return to school. Or would that make travel section's head explode? And what are actual shortest orders cadets have gotten? I was really lucky when I was active only having a short notice when I was ETS-ing found out the week before that my Early exit due to holidays was approved (regular ETS would have been 28 December) I got all my exit checklist done in 2 days lol.

Is this this year's dates I just noticed that it has Aug 12th being Friday but this year Aug 12 is a Saturday. Figure that class is my son's and his move in day for Fall is Friday Aug 11th only reason I even noticed it being off. But every time I talk to him it changes lol first he was supposedly doing Camp first but then he said doing last but last on this (has HOLD) ends after Fall Sem stars for us . Just have to keep reminding myself I know how the Army works so need to stuff that OCD planner back in the box then use lots of chain to keep it closed lol

Those are the dates that I was given, when I asked for this Summer's. You are right about the one day off. I assume those are last year's dates, and this years will be the same with a one day shift. Expect some changes as I don't believe any cadets have a locked in slot yet, as my BDE hasn't allocated slots yet. They are just collected numbers.

Thanks several had posted they had dates and I was wondering why he was just finishing paperwork for Basic Camp last week. His unit seems to really be working hard to make sure their battalion's representatives at BC are going to be at the least familiarized with things to be covered. They do 'Super Labs once or twice a month instead of the single weekly 1hr lab. The last two they have been doing training from 0500 to 2200.

Really appreciate knowing what is going on behind the scenes so know when to expect word.
